We really are living in the Matrix!

Posted by Auandag @ 10:30 on October 3, 2014

PM demand keeps rising, supply keeps dropping, Indian wedding season, new bourses etc, yet the price keeps dropping like a stone. Conversely the $ is madly printed and more countries bypassing it in their trade with one another, yet it rises exponentially. Are we  reaching the final blowoff? Do our leaders have a clue about what they are doing? I remember growing up in the uneventful fifties and learning about the old testament in school and finding it hard to believe that people back then could become so depraved, yet what I see happening today is even more unbelievable.

That’s all we need …

Gold prices hurting miners? Throw Ebola into the mix

Already besieged gold miners are the most vulnerable to the lengthy and deadly Ebola outbreak in Africa, Deutsche Bank warned Friday

In an in-depth assessment of the disease’s likely impact, the bank concludes that from the gold mining companies operating in the continent Randgold Resources (LON:RRS) is particularly exposed due to the locations of its mines, as the company’s production is entirely focused on West and Central Africa.

Nordgold and AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU) are also in a tough position, with 57% and 53% of their net present value (NPV) in the most affected region respectively, it adds.

Iron ore and aluminum producers, as well as oil drillers also have some exposure. ArcelorMittal (NYSE:MT) has iron ore assets in both Guinea and Liberia, while Vedanta Resources (LON:VED) is also present in Liberia and African Minerals (LON:AMI) has a mine in Sierra Leone.

Yesterday ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) announced it was postponing operations off the coast of Liberia, a hotspot in the Ebola pandemic.

The Texas-based oil major has a number of projects underway in West Africa, including the recently acquired 80% stake in a project off the coast of Liberia, a joint venture with Canadian Overseas Petroleum.

Australia authorizes special forces troops to go to Iraq

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:02 on October 3, 2014

(Reuters) – Australian special forces troops will be deployed in Iraq to assist in the fight against Islamic State militants, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Friday, and its aircraft will also join U.S.-led coalition strikes.

Abbott said in a nationally televised news conference the Australian troops would be engaged in an “advise and assist” capacity to support the Iraqi army in their battle against the militant Islamist group.

The United States has been bombing Islamic State and other groups in Syria for almost two weeks with the help of Arab allies, and hitting targets in neighboring Iraq since August.

European countries have joined the campaign in Iraq but not in Syria.

Last month, Abbott sent aircraft and 600 personnel to the United Arab Emirates in preparation for joining the coalition. He has since said it was likely Australian aircraft would join the strikes to combat Islamic State, which he described as a “murderous death cult”.

Re Mines.

Costs were @ 300 to 400 $ back then, so only when we got sub 300 was it real bad and that didn’t last that long….Remember the Hui bottomed at 36.03 when everyone thought the Biz was finished.

Costs have gone through the roof, since…Farmers I talk to say the same, their costs have exploded. That is the hidden inflation that the official numbers don’t show, as they are just flat out lies, now-adays. Just like tdys report.

Re SM

They may fill the opening gaps, but with the Jobs report cnmfing what Obummer said about the economy………they’ll probably put 1 or 2 hundred points on the Dow….that way no-one will worry about all the  Ebola news and Obummer being found out for never reading his Intell reports etc, which is why he never heard about ISIS etc

I wonder about mines shutting….how did they keep running–even until 2008 gold was only$800–and 250 to 500 for years before that

Posted by Richard640 @ 9:28 on October 3, 2014

even adjusting for higher mining costs today–how did they mine for 300-500 an oz gold??

maddog – I actually wonder if the boyz will keep the SM positive all day.

R640 – the nightmare continues, gold doesn’t come back on smash days – ever. Right now gold is trading tick for tick with oil and that’s not a good thing. If things are so great shouldn’t oil be strong? Strong demand?

The only hope for pm’s is China and Russia unseating the USD and instituting a gold backed currency. That pipe dream seems to be slipping away.

These miners are going to start going belly up soon. At a minimum, shutting mines.

It really didn’t matter whether the jobs number was good like it was today –  or bad, they were going to crush pm’s. I’m just surprised we’re not at $1180 right now, but we my still get there today.

Never seen anything that goes down every day like this stuff does.
