@Maddog re The dollar is moving like there is something very big going on

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 13:01 on January 8, 2015

Remember way back when Obama on TV pleading to businesses said …”America needs a raise”? Well, a lot of general people are getting a raise with lower energy prices. Also its not the first time we have falling heating oil in the winter time.

Unfortunately, energy business and people are losing out. Everybody gets a turn for feast or famine. Sectors, countries, etc. The Oil glut dropping prices story? I don’t buy it. I see TPTB doing a stronger dollar play causing lower oil.

I also think TPTB lowered the dollar to stimulate European countries and Japan. My question is…How long will they run this trend? The USA imo was the global beneficiary from 2009 until June 2014, 5 years. Will we get a one year hit with 6 months left? Or a 5 year hit? Hit meaning stronger dollar.

And Q-E?? Its meaningless with interest rates going down anyway without Q-E.

A great example of how mad it all is

Santander is now Europes largest bank, it is Spanish and therefore chock full of dodgy property loans, to name just one of the thousands of crap “assetts” in its basement. It is the poster child of all that is wrong in the EU…….and then we get this……

All is clearly not well below the surface. Europe’s largest bank (by market value) has admitted in a regulatory filing that it needs to raise capital. As WSJ reports, Banco Santander SA said it would raise up to €7.5 billion ($8.88 billion) in a capital hike, a bid to address long-running concerns among investors and analysts that its financial cushion was weaker than peers. European banking stocks are up over 2% today as Italian banks surge
limit up (BMPS +13%) on speculation that they will be purchased by Santander (who ‘pumpers’ believe are raising this capital to go on a spending spree) and ‘old’ Draghi headlines.

You may be right about a smash tomorrow, I’m surprised we’re holding up as well as we are today with the DOW now positive for 2015.

At some point I have to think the Fed is going to need to talk the USD down.

Sorry about that, Ipso – I should check my spelling before posting.

Canadian court hands victory to First Nations in lawsuit against Rio Tinto

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:23 on January 8, 2015

Two Quebec Innu communities whose traditional territory covers a large part of the province northeast and Labrador, have achieved a crucial legal victory in their battle for Cdn$900 million ($760 million) in compensation from Rio Tinto-owned Iron Ore Co. of Canada (IOC).

The win came as the Quebec Court of Appeal, which is the province’s highest court, said Wednesday it won’t hear an appeal of a September 2014 Quebec Superior Court judgment that rejected a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

The Innu First Nations of Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam (Uashaunnuat) and Matimekush-Lac John claim that IOC has violated their rights for nearly 60 years by running a large mining complex and railway on traditional territory in northeastern Quebec and Labrador without prior consent.

Rio was pursuing the suit dismissal by arguing that the provincial government is the one that should be targeted and not the company.

The Innu claim says IOC’s mines and facilities have ruined the environment, displaced members from their territory and prevented them from practicing their traditional way of life. They also said the 578-kilometre railway between Schefferville and Sept-Iles has opened up their territory to “numerous other destructive development projects.”

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Scientists find antibiotic that kills bugs without resistance

Posted by ipso facto @ 9:34 on January 8, 2015

Scientists have discovered a new antibiotic, teixobactin, that can kill serious infections in mice without encountering any detectable resistance, offering a potential new way to get ahead of dangerous evolving superbugs.

Researchers said the antibiotic, which has yet to be trialled in humans, could one day be used to treat drug-resistant infections caused by the superbug MSRA, as well as tuberculosis, which normally requires a combination of drugs that can have adverse side effects.

“The discovery of this novel compound challenges long-held scientific beliefs and holds great promise for treating an array of menacing infections,” said Kim Lewis, a professor at Northeastern University in the United States and co-founder of the NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, which has patented teixobactin.

This high school principle wanted to see why this younger was so out of line.  So instead of suspending him he went to see his parents.  The use of using 4 letter words was how this family communicated.  An environment now that seems now to be the norm.

Yeah, pretty comical how they can goose all markets pretty much at will.

I have a sneaking suspicion the US market may gap and crap out today. If not, then we are looking at another year like the last couple.

I once met a bloke, 30 some years ago, who worked in education as a senior administrator in the UK, he went to Moscow for his holidays !!!!

He boasted to me, you just watch how the kids turn out in the comming years…..it is absolutely deliberate, the dumming down. What is truly tragic is that the USSR no longer exists, so all the hard left educators are like those lost Jap soldiers, still supporting the Emperor after he had capitulated !!!!!!

amals @ 22:35. Greetings. It was a comment by Dave Morgan a long time ago that

alerted me to First Majestic. I have simply held on because it seemed to be amongst the silver producers that should survive. Nothing sophisticated or technical about that gut feeling; my confidence has simply been bolstered by occasionally seeing silver bars bearing the First Majestic imprint; our physical holdings include a couple of First Majestic bars. Wishing you a pleasant 2015 in the silver market. Equiz
