Bullion American Silver Eagles crossed the 30 million mark, landing at 30,531,000 with sales moving up to the second quickest pace in the coin’s 29-year history. Silver Eagle sales in record year 2013 hurdled 34.9 million through the same time last year. In 2011, now the third quickest year, they were at 30.4 million by Sept. 22, 2011. Sales of this year’s Silver Eagles had been on a record annual pace until severe slowdowns in June, July and a good part of August. Early last week, demand for the coins started to rise sharply. read more

New diamond nanothreads may let scientists build space elevator

American scientists from Penn State University have discovered how to produce ultra-thin diamond nanothreads, a sort of strong carbon nanotubes, which could prove to be stronger and hardier element currently available.

Research team leader, John V. Badding, said the discovery could be the key to building a space elevator for humankind to reach the stars.

Such a gadget could potentially allow earthlings to make it into orbit without the use of rocket ships. The problem with this idea is that space scientists don’t currently have any substance sufficiently both strong and light enough to make that sort of crane, which so far has existed only as a science-fiction idea.

Buygold @ 10:21 Good Morning. Paper Has Absolutely No Power Whatsoever,

Posted by Farmboy @ 10:39 on September 24, 2014

it is people believing in / trusting in, paper that gives it the illusionary ‘power’. When folks start questioning or no longer ‘believe’ in all those paper debt promises, it will be Katy bar the door. That day could soon come.

After receiving Indonesia permit, Newmont lifts 2014 outlook

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:37 on September 24, 2014

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – US gold and copper miner Newmont Mining on Tuesday lifted its Indonesian production outlook after it on Monday reported that the Indonesian government had given it a permit to resume copper concentrate exports.

After resolving export issues in Indonesia, Newmont said that it now expected to produce between 55 000 oz and 65 000 oz of gold from Batu Hijau, up from its second-quarter assumption that the mine would remain on care and maintenance until at least January 2015, with output stalled at between 15 000 oz and 20 000 oz.

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 9:46 on September 24, 2014

Well, it looks like he made it happen, in a backwards way. Instead of raising the minimum standard wage to $20/hr, (where its needed to stop food stamps and pay tax absorbers) he just raised the dollar instead. Look at the falling nat gas, gasoline, and heating oil.

Look at the inverting falling cereals, and grains.

Interest rates may be rolling lower too now.

I know its the bankers worst night mare to see people’s money gain value while sitting under the mattress. Unfortunately the low prices will cause shortages if producing companies shut down.

I remember few years ago everybody complaining about high food prices. I told people high prices are good, because you will be able to GET food, just pay more.

At least they’re not afraid to show it

EU plans for Iran gas imports if sanctions go

Posted by ipso facto @ 9:26 on September 24, 2014

(Reuters) – The European Union is quietly increasing the urgency of a plan to import natural gas from Iran, as relations with Tehran thaw while those with top gas supplier Russia grow chillier.

Two “ifs” – the removal of sanctions on Iran and the addition of some pipeline infrastructure – are not preventing EU planners preparing, a European Commission source involved in developing EU energy strategy told Reuters.

“Iran is far towards the top of our priorities for mid-term measures that will help reduce our reliance on Russian gas supplies,” the source said. “Iran’s gas could come to Europe quite easily and politically there is a clear rapprochement between Tehran and the West.”

Russia is currently Europe’s biggest supplier of natural gas, meeting a third of its demand worth $80 billion a year. The EU has imposed sanctions on Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine, increasing the need for gas from elsewhere.

While sanctioned itself, Iran has the world’s second largest gas reserves after Russia and is a potential alternative given talks between Tehran and the West to reach a deal over the Islamic Republic’s disputed nuclear program.
