US-based mining giant Newmont (NYSE:NEM) has withdrawn an international arbitration filing against the Indonesian government, signalling an imminent end to its seven-month dispute that forced it to stop copper exports.
The Colorado-based miner requested arbitration in early July, seeking interim, injunctive relief to resume exports of red metal concentrate. Indonesia responded by asking Newmont to withdraw the lawsuit or risk losing its mining license.
The parts, reports Reuters, have reached a “constructive solution” over new mining rules with Newmont’s Indonesian CEO Martiono Hadianto saying he expects to “soon” resume operations at Batu Hijau copper mine, halted since early June.

The headline print of a record-breaking 22.6% gain – smashing the 8.0% expectation – hides the extremely obvious factor of the largest civilian aircraft orders (an entirely one-off non-repeatable factor). Durables ex Transportation collapsed from a 3% gain to a 0.8% drop – the biggest drop in 2014, missing expectations by the most in 8 months. Perhaps even more concerning, non-defense ex-aircraft new orders dropped 0.5% (missing expectations of a 0.2% gain).
a little pop this am for which I can find no rhyme or reason. Durable Goods for July came in at 22.6% which is the highest I’ve ever seen and must be some kind of funky mistake and surely would be a great reason to spank pm’s but….nyet
Looks like maybe CMHC will stand for Canada Mansions Have Crashed. Well in Calif. when of if they run out of water even the frog pond RE will suffer but usually what comes next is the floods when the rains do come and the runoff from the drought conditions. Those in flood zones or cliff dwellers always have problems after a drought not to mention quakes and fires in many of the same areas. Here you need all sorts of insurance.
Regarding RE.. In my immediate vicinity crickets on anything 1 mil + and a lot of product is lanquishing for months with buyers still thinking HAM will come to the rescue so holding on to high list prices. Not gonna happen with the cancellation of the IIP back in Feb of this year.. Sure tell is the 888’s in the price. I laugh every time I see a new listing plastered with 8’s which might have worked in the heyday but that boat has long sailed. . Some pockets under 1 mil which has CMHC backing still have activity. But all in all , I’d say the market is transitioning to a downward bias .Has been a long time coming. Much longer than I ever could have imagined.
yes I rember salscandle .. like the good gold bug guy .. I think we both advised sals not to trust those candle sticks.. but he had invested years of working on that TA model.. like all stock analysis they work until they don’t… and the large banks and trading people know this and can adjust those lines on the charts ..to there advantage // these banks do wash trades in and out .. .. and the little people doing the charts will soon learn a lesson of the charts in my opinion .
