I’m surprised they didn’t start you on something like a muscle relaxant like Flexeril first you can even take as needed instead of everyday depending before that but I don’t know the severity.
So yeah, Your right in being on pain meds after awhile your body won’t manufacture your own to help deal with pain… also mood including depression. It’s not just psyche it’s chemical or physical. Dang drug pushers lol On the other end of that some just cut them off leaving them with no alternative or got addicted while on it and didn’t put them on something like a methadone program especially if still in chronic pain.

I have been off the Percocet and morphine for some time now.

My brain has been on absolute fire for the last 5 days – I didn’t need or WANT sleep to be honest. I’ll never take that crap in any form again.
