Robin Williams RIP

Wonderful, great comedian …and I am saddened by it. I love all the comedians. Abbot and Costello, Sid Caesar, Milton Bearle…so many names that I have left out. The greatest, imo, the best? Well that’s a matter of conjecture. But, for little ole me, there was one stand out comedian that at least, deserves a spot in the top ten. His name was Peter Sellers.

You have @ 20 k of yr forces at some base in Jordon, that’s where are a lot of the stuff going to the Kurds is comming from, also the Jordanian Armed Forces are pretty serious as well, we have very close links to them.

What we need is leaders that let them loose, with no limits and no media.

Ps the short pm stox/long gold spreaders have gotta be feeling pain here.

Absolutely right about ISIS and the Turks. They’d be nuts to try and take on the Turks at this point. I’m not sure they could even defeat the Kurds right now. They’d be better off heading to Jordan.

Bummer day for pm’s. Tough to swallow after such a nice open. Boot continues to be on the neck.

“The true sign of a top is when you have these new structures piling up,” JPMorgan joins Goldman in designing derivatives for a new generation

“The true sign of a top is when you have these new structures piling up,” said Lawrence McDonald, a chief strategist at Newedge USA LLC, and author of the book “A Colossal Failure of Common Sense” about the 2008 demise of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. “At the top of the market in 2007, there were these types of innovation and many investors didn’t realize about it at that time. These products are a clear risk indicator.”

Derivatives that helped inflate the 2007 credit bubble are being remade for a new generation.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is offering a swap contract tied to a speculative-grade loan index that makes it easier for investors to wager on the debt.
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is planning as much as 10 billion euros ($13.4 billion) of structured investments that bundle debt into top-rated securities, while ProShares last week started offering exchange-traded funds backed by credit-default swaps on company debt.

Oppenheimer Has Gold Miners as a Top Trade Idea

Posted by ipso facto @ 12:25 on August 12, 2014

If any asset class has disappointed investors over the last three years, it has been gold. Many on Wall Street are just now starting to reexamine gold for investors’ portfolios. Years of quantitative easing by the Federal Reserve and other central banks have started to accomplish their goal of re-inflating economies. The problem is they may have reinflated too much, and inflationary pressures could already exist — ask any person who has shopped for meat and groceries these days.

The technical team at Oppenheimer sees big upside in gold miners going forward, and analysts are actually more bullish on the miners than the precious metal itself. In their new report, Oppenheimer analysts cite an exchange traded fund (ETF) and three top stocks to buy in the gold mining arena.

China Begins Direct Sales Of Fruit & Vegetables To Russia

Tyler Durden's picture

Despite the ongoing mainstream media meme that Russia is becoming ‘isolated‘ from the rest of the world thanks to Western sanctions, it appears they have found a few new ‘old’ friends to become un-isolated with. On the heels of Russia’s food-import-ban sanctions last week, Russian and Chinese officials have announced an agreement that China will start selling fruit and vegetables directly to Russia via a special logistics center in Russia’s far east. Notably, this week saw Russia’s GDP beat consensus expectations, Ruble rally, and stocks jump as German confidence plunged – can you say blowback?

As RT reports,

China will start selling fruit and vegetables directly to Russia, and Baorong company plans to set up a special logistics center in Dongning on the border with Russia’s Far East to do it.

The 70,000 square meter wholesale market and 30,000 square meter warehouse, fitted out with refrigerators and other equipment, will be in a special cross-border customs zone, ITAR-TASS cites the head of the Association of Applied Economy of the Heilongjiang Province Zhang Chunjiao.

“Direct export of fruit and vegetables to Russia will be organized from it,” she said.

It will cost $9.7 million to construct. Customs clearance times will be reduced, and there will be no need to double-check the cargo because of video surveillance in the warehouse.

A Chinese company Dili, also intends to create a similar cross-border trade zone by the end of 2014, Zhang Chunjiao added.

The announcement comes after Russia introduced a 1-year ban on imports of some agricultural products from the EU, US, Australia, Canada, Australia and Norway last week. If it lasts, it could cost European Union members $16 billion, Vygaudas Usackas, the EU ambassador to Russia, estimated.

We assume payment for these imports will be in Rubles or Renminbi… not US Dollars.

Islamic State militants threaten Turkey with violence if Euphrates water supply not restored

Posted by ipso facto @ 12:04 on August 12, 2014

Islamic State militants have directly threatened Turkey with violence as they swore to “liberate” Istanbul in order to reopen a dam on the Euphrates River. Water flow to parts of Syria and Iraq is at a record low.

The apparent closure is especially unfavorable to the terrorist group, as its new ‘capital’ Raqqa, in northern Syria, is in that zone. This is creating a humanitarian catastrophe as water levels plummet in nearby Lake Assad.

In a new Vice documentary episode on the IS militia, one member warns that if the Turkish government doesn’t open the Euphrates Dam back up, the group will do it for them by “liberating” Istanbul.

“I pray to God that the apostate [Turkish] government reconsiders its decisions. Because if they do not reconsider it now, we will reconsider it for them by liberating İstanbul,” Abu Mosa, the spokesman for the group, tells the camera during the filming of the five-episode documentary in Raqqa. He makes sure to identify this as “a clear threat.”

Get you some horses for this ride
Silver and Gold, tough and tried,
going to ride places never seen before
going to test this bull to the very core.

You’re going to see blood, guts and bone
all the Cabal bad guys will set the tone,
going to ride hard throughout the day,
with sudden reversals in October and May.

Never mind the varmints on your right,
they’re just looking for a good old fight,
but watch out for snipers on your left,
they take your horses and leave you bereft.

Going to ride fast until your breath is raw,
all the Cretin tricks will stick in your craw,
just keep your eyes focused on the goal
don’t get spooked by any fast talkin’ troll.

Saddle up now for the ride of your life,
you’re going to see mishap, blood and strife,
just keep your balance until you’re home
this GOLD bull has a will of its own.

The Warsaw Uprising (Polish: powstanie warszawskie) was a major World War II operation by the Polish resistance Home Army (Polish: Armia Krajowa) to liberate Warsaw from Nazi Germany. The Uprising was timed to coincide with the Soviet Union’s Red Army approaching the eastern suburbs of the city and the retreat of German forces.[9] However, the Soviet advance stopped short, enabling the Germans to regroup and demolish the city while defeating the Polish resistance, which fought for 63 days with little outside support. The Uprising was the largest single military effort taken by any European resistance movement during World War II.[10]

The Uprising began on 1 August 1944, as part of a nationwide plan, Operation Tempest, when the Soviet Army approached Warsaw. The main Polish objectives were to drive the German occupiers from the city and help with the larger fight against Germany and the Axis powers. Secondary political objectives were to liberate Warsaw before the Soviets, to underscore Polish sovereignty by empowering the Polish Underground State before the Soviet-backed Polish Committee of National Liberation could assume control. Also, short-term causes included the threat of a German round-up of able-bodied Poles, and Moscow radio calling for the Uprising to begin.

Initially, the Poles established control over most of central Warsaw, but the Soviets ignored Polish attempts to establish radio contact and did not advance beyond the city limits. Intense street fighting between the Germans and Poles continued. By 14 September, Polish forces under Soviet high command occupied the east bank of the Vistula river opposite the resistance positions; but only 1,200 men made it across to the west bank, and they were not reinforced by the bulk of the Red Army. This, and the lack of Soviet air support from a base 5 minutes flying time away, led to allegations that Joseph Stalin tactically halted his forces to let the operation fail and allow the Polish resistance to be crushed. Arthur Koestler called the Soviet attitude “one of the major infamies of this war which will rank for the future historian on the same ethical level with Lidice.”[11]

Winston Churchill pleaded with Stalin and Franklin D. Roosevelt to help Britain’s Polish allies, to no avail. Then, without Soviet air clearance, Churchill sent over 200 low-level supply drops by the Royal Air Force, the South African Air Force and the Polish Air Force under British High Command. Later, after gaining Soviet air clearance, the US Army Air Force sent one high-level mass airdrop as part of Operation Frantic. The Soviet Union refused to allow American bombers from Western Europe to land on Soviet airfields after dropping supplies to the Poles.[12]

Although the exact number of casualties remains unknown, it is estimated that about 16,000 members of the Polish resistance were killed and about 6,000 badly wounded. In addition, between 150,000 and 200,000 Polish civilians died, mostly from mass executions. Jews being harboured by Poles were exposed by German house-to-house clearances and mass evictions of entire neighbourhoods. German casualties totalled over 8,000 soldiers killed and missing, and 9,000 wounded. During the urban combat approximately 25% of Warsaw’s buildings were destroyed. Following the surrender of Polish forces, German troops systematically leveled another 35% of the city block by block. Together with earlier damage suffered in the 1939 invasion of Poland and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943, over 85% of the city was destroyed by January 1945, when the course of the events in the Eastern Front forced the Germans to abandon the city.
