Bulgaria Halts South Stream Pipeline Again As NATO F-15s, Troops Arrive

As we detailed previously, Bulgaria had been an enthusiastic supporter of the Russian-backed South Stream gas pipeline project, whose construction has stoked tensions between the West and Moscow as it enabled gas supply to bypass troubled Ukraine (thus squeezing the desparate economy back into Russia’s hands). In early June, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski ordered an initial halt (after Europe offered the nation’s suddenly collapsing banking system a lifeline). This time, Energy Minister Vasil Shtonov has ordered Bulgaria’s Energy Holding to halt any actions in regards of the project as it does not meet the requirements of the European Commission. Of course, we assume this decision (to halt a 2nd time) is entirely independent of NATO’s deployment of 12 F-15s and 180 troops to Bulgaria’s Graf Ignatievo Air Base.

Ferguson Curfew Cancelled As National Guard Arrives; Holder Demands To “Remove The Damn Tanks”

The Missouri Governor Jay Nixon gave “no heads up” to the White House before deploying The National Guard and has now made another abrupt decision as The National Guard closes in on Ferguson:
- *NIXON’S CALL TO HALT CURFEW TONIGHT MADE IN E-MAILED STATEMENT
We presume when there are military tanks rolling through the streets of a town, there is no need for the actual implementation of a curfew… This once again rubs the administration’s nose in it as AG Holder’s comments from last week hang in the air: “get those damned tanks out of there.”
The neighborhood has been under a midnight-to-5 a.m. curfew the past two days, after Nixon declared a state of emergency. That has now changed…

US firm claims Australia’s biggest oil find in 30 years
US oil and energy firm Apache Corp. (NYSE:APA) said Monday an exploration well offshore Western Australia state had found as much as 300 million barrels of crude, potentially the country’s largest oil discovery in the last 30 years.
The drilling result from the Phoenix South-1 well in the offshore Canning Basin, said the company in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange, may herald a new oil “province” for the country.
Shares of Apache’s exploration partner Carnarvon Petroleum (ASX:CVN), which holds a 20% stake in the venture, jumped the most in 24 years on the news.

German spying report angers Turkey, embarrasses Berlin
(Reuters) – The German government faced an angry reaction from Turkey and accusations of hypocrisy from its own opposition on Monday after media reports that its intelligence agency spied on its NATO ally.
The reports also said the agency had listened to the phone calls of two U.S. secretaries of state – the kind of activity for which Chancellor Angela Merkel has criticized Washington.
Turkey summoned the German ambassador and called for a full explanation following a Spiegel magazine report that the BND foreign intelligence agency had been spying on Turkey for years and identified Ankara as a top surveillance target in an internal government document from 2009.
Turkey’s foreign ministry described the weekend report as “absolutely unacceptable” if true.

My back neighbor owns farmland and leases it out in Oklahoma. We were talking about GMO corn and he was saying that all the corn grown that he knows about is roundup – ready GMO corn.
All that’s needed is to compel labeling and anyone with a lick of sense would be buying the non GMO products. Let the market decide.
Why did steel stocks break out last
month from an almost 3 year basing pattern?
Why are commodities getting killed but steel is rallying?For steel to rally so strongly this late in the credit cycle is very odd. Is it a harbinger of inflation? If so, why are commodities crashing? Have you seen AG products?
