Planning transportation routes for overland movement of

heavy equipment during mineral and petroleum exploration in arctic  terrain already has plenty of challenges, and now a new geophysical feature or  phenomenon, tentatively named ‘alternative pingos’ , is capturing the attention of northern geophysical specialists.  Some details of these small hills, containing methane gas, are provided in the link below, based on operations in Siberia.  So far, I have not seen reports of similar features from Alaskan or Canadian tundra sites rich in ground ice or known methane build-up.
