My thoughts on that Rickards piece:

– I am not a fan of quantity analysis. Take a measure (real or imagined) of macroeconomic aggregate A. Take a measure of B. Now divide A into B. If that is supposed to tell you something, you may be surprised to learn how little it does tell you.
– The gold standard is not about the government owning or controlling a large quantity of gold.
– No matter how much gold the government of China owns, there is no mechanism to retroactively declare their purely paper yuan to be gold “backed”. It’s impossible to reverse cause and effect.
– In a gold standard, every paper bank note, every deposit, began life as a deposit of gold. The deposit is redeemable. Today, every dollar or yuan or euro began life as an irredeemable credit. You cannot turn paper into gold. No matter what quantity of gold the government owns.
– China has a seat, nothing to do with its gold, but with its economy. That and the fact that it’s a big creditor.
– “took the lid off gold” and “ended the price manipulation” — this is a fantastical allegation, not a fact. I have tons to debunk it.
– “this reset” <– a goldbug fantasy. Buy gold now because IT’S REALLY GONNA GO SKY HIGH!
– Gold does not go up, but the dollar can go down. Suppose the gold price hits $5000. That is not a profit. It is a collapse in the value of everyone’s life savings, and business capital. Gold owners will avoid that loss, which is good. But when they sell the gold, they pay 28% at the federal level plus state income tax and lose a third or more to taxes.
– China is vulnerable so the US needs to keep China happy? This logic is backwards.
– “if they have a mix of paper and gold, and we inflate the paper, they’ll make it up on the gold.” <– gold bug thinking right there. Like saying “If my stocks go down and my gold goes up, I am good.” Gold does not go anywhere. If you own a trillion dollars, that’s worth about 833M ounces. If the value of the dollar falls by 80%, you have just lost 667M ounces worth. Even if you own 100,000,000 ounces of the metal, that does not mitigate the loss.
– “That’s not speculation. It’s in the footnotes of the annual BIS report.” <– typical not just of gold bug writing, but conspiracy theory writing like 9/11. Paint a fantastical picture with unicorns and Holy Grails and Merlin himself casting spells… then point to a real source to prove some incidental point. Sure, the BIS is involved in gold deals when one central bank buys gold from another. Great. That does not support his story.
– “if we are transparent about the gold acquisition, the price will go up too quickly.” Is this article really about the monetary system? Or is it the gold bug infomercial on Why To Buy Gold Right Away? The gold bugs sit and think about three things. (1) I sure wish the gold price would go up so I can sell my gold, (2) someone must be keeping gold down, (3) what scenarios would destroy my enemies and make gold go to $10,000.
– “The point is that is that there is so much instability in the system with derivatives and leverage…” <– a non sequitur in a long series of non sequitur.

One upgrade less than the current 10.10.2… that I can do without.

I gave this pep talk to FB in his liquid induced depths of despair several years ago. It takes the experience of the aged to make a better world for the loved ones after. It takes men and women of BG and FB stature to make right.

It is up to our generation to make a difference for two hence. I have four kids from 16-32, only one of which has a clue. Aside from the one that “understands”, all I’m planning for is one Grandkid, with another on the way.

We can’t fight the system, we can only prepare for the next one.

I’m reading a book, Above the Salt, that starts out in the 12 century. It takes 100 years (or four generations) to get to the individual rights set out in the Magna Carta of 1215, 800 years ago. It is up to us to build those blocks, for no obvious earthly rewards.

My family name is a prominent fixture and signatory. Apparently history rhymes.

My world is small. The only thing I can do is try to tell my kids and grandkids the truth. Try to get them to think critically and be prepared, avoid whatever the MSM tells them as it is all propaganda. Try to get them to think about how they’d feel if their friends and relatives were slaughtered by someone else’s military – how they’d feel and how they’d react.

I love my brothers in arms, most of them don’t see it s I do. Most see it as the hodgies are just out to get us, but I guarantee you that if the shoe was on the other foot, they’d be the worst kind of terrorists the world has ever known.

I am not a patriot in the eyes of the propaganda machine. I just want people to live and let live. I no longer want to be controlled by the money masters, but I know that the end game is to make slaves of us all or make the prophecy of Armageddon be true.

What I do know is that for some reason we fail to advance, that history for the human race repeats over and over. I don’t understand why as a civilization we fail to advance not technologically but spiritually. I believe that there are more forces at work in the world than we are conscience of and I’m not sure at all that we are at the top of the food chain.

“Treat others as you would have them do unto you”. Fewer words of truth have ever been spoken.

MM3 –  I’m tired of wars, lies, enemies and more lies. I’m tired of humanity being manipulated and being made slaves. Maybe I’m just tired of this thing we call life. I dunno.

It’s always been my opinion that respect is earned. In the US we no longer deserve any respect. Our response to everyone who challenges our financial authority is war. Think about Saddam Hussein, he wanted to accept fiat OTHER THAN USD’S FOR OIL. He was eliminated. Afghanistan had the ability to control  the world’s poppy production, the CIA and the US wanted control.  Afghanistan through the CIA now controls 90% of the worlds poppy production – in the 90’s they controlled less than 10%.

Everything about the US policy is related to the control of money and profit. We don’t care whose kids we bomb or how many families we murder with our bombs, we were invented and controlled to serve the financial interests of the few. Whether it is the MIA, the Drug trade or the oil trade. That’s what we use our military for, that’s why we’ve lost respect around the world.

We are controlled exclusively by Zio-Nazi bankers and those who seek nothing more than profit. THEY ARE PSYCHOPATHS.

Mr. Copper – of course the media is related to Obama. How else could he survive? We live in a totally controlled matrix. We could reverse course and go total protectionist and that is the right move – but it will NEVER happen with the media and the current Zio-Nazi psychopaths in charge. People buying foreign consumer products is the same as paying a tax to or foreign aid to other countries.
