Electrolytes

Posted by Maya @ 2:46 on June 30, 2026

I learned this from a friend in the SouthWest deserts.  An electrolyte drink packet that is nothing but sodium, potasium, and magnesium salts with a touch of flavoring.  No sugar or sweeteners.  Significantly more salt than ‘government recommendations’ that is optimized for peak absorption and performance… especially in hot weather.  I’ve been using it lately and it does taste salty, but very palatable.  Called:   LMNT.  (Element)

What ever works plus like the sock with the houses, insulation  insulation, insulation. Opening windows except in the morning is only going to bring in hot air.  Windows need duel pane and  thermal curtains or wet towel  closed with shade outside it to stop the sun hitting them. Take a hose to the roof and walls where the sun is shining along with the ground will cool the temperature for a time.

A cool rag around your neck cooling the carotid arteries to cool the body. Lots of ice stored. Light cloths including the kids and electrolytes around, water alone won’t do it. It can flush out the electrolytes.  You or children can get water alone toxicity with only large amounts of water. Think a sponge thrown in water swells up, expands, that’s what water toxicity does to your brain. Creates a head injury with head hatch nausea vomiting. If anything a little salt in the water, salt crackers or something salty and other than just water.

They will kill people with heat strokes,  heat exhaustion, and dehydration. Hope most can fight back and appeal. Hope someone’s watching out for the infants children who can’t talk about it but might get fussy and keep them cool and hydrated. Then the elderly which will die if no one’s helping them. Maybe that’s what they want.

The earliest, and still the simplest, are tubes covered in wet cloth.

The tube is outside the building with one or both ends connected to the building. The tube is cooled by the water evaporating from the cloth. A fan blows air through the tube pushing the cooler air into the building. If both ends are connected the air gets progressively cooler.

A few years back we were camping and it was 106 in the shade. Just putting socks on the beer bottles and keeping them watered got the temp down to the low 70’s, which felt really cool in those conditions. Everybody was laughing their heads off – but they all drank the beer!
