A fall into the basement can kill you; it did my mother-in-law. 80% of elderly people who break hips die a year later, mine made it for 2 years. Be serious about rehab, no pain, no gain. Never give up. Think of yourself as “younger,” not “older”. Modernize your home. Grab bars, zero-transition shower entries make sense when you’re getting older, outfit the bathroom with plenty of grab bars, washer an dryer combo on the main floor. Ramp down to the garage level. Gate at top of stairs too.
