Lou Holtz

Posted by larryc @ 12:02 on February 13, 2016

Where to start? I have known for years that the political leanings on this board do not much agree with mine.  I long ago decided that it was to my advantage to come here for the information I found interesting, and for the reason I came here in the first place, gold and silver.

Although close friends might label me as a liberal, upon further investigation, they would find that my political views are across the board. It depends on the subject, and sometimes my current mood.  I have found that the easiest and cheapest way to make a political argument is to categorize peoples views, and consider that group as a whole.  But if we really looked at ourselves individually, we would surely find that we individually are not that easy to categorize.

If a group were looking for a spokesperson, they could do FAR better than the likes of Lou Holtz.  I have no more to say about that.  But this presentation, which I don’t really know for fact came from him ( no insult to the poster intended), it is so fraught with holes I don’t know where to start.  But since I am not going to spend much time on this, I would like to make just one point. (or two)

If we categorize all people who are down as lifetime lazy people who’s intent is to take what others have, how would you categorize me?  I’ve been down. I remember that I once qualified for unemployment pay but chose not to take it because I didn’t really need it.  Others do and have needed it, and it saved families from more hardship and  possible hunger.

Are there shit-ass lazy poor people out there?  Sure.  Are there shit-ass lazy rich people out there who didn’t earn a dime? Sure.  What’s the point? What’s YOUR point?

I live in a country where I have the right to own things, and people can’t take them from me.  There are many places I could have been brought up in and lived where the government could take everything I have and put me on the street. I didn’t do it by myself.  Because of where I live, I have the luxury of being able to, for the most part, keep what I have, and what I have earned.  President Obama made this point a couple years ago, didn’t say it as well as he could have, and got blasted .  I GET IT.

Do I “like” our government and what they’re doing? Not so much.  Do I like what the FED has done to our finances and to our economy? Not so much. Do I like people who try to pigeon-hole  and label others based on their political views?  Not so much.

Comments that come from right or left wing thinkers are cheap and insulting.  VERY few of us fit into either category.  And even worse, it’s polarizing, and  tends to drive us apart, when we should be spending our time  exploring common ground.

That should do me for about 10 years.  I’ll express more thoughts in 2025 if I’m still kickin’.  (whether you like it or not!)
