SP 500 and NDX Futures Daily Charts – Credibility Trap

“The fear of a backlash against the political establishment is absolutely palpable in Washington. Whatever they may dutifully mouth in public, even the professional denizens of the nation’s capital really believe that there has been a recovery. It is not difficult to believe in a recovery when your stock portfolio has been inflated by the Fed’s QE. So, they are all genuinely mystified about why the common folk are restless.”

Le Cafe’s Samoan Attorney in Washington DC
Well technically he is Greek, but has a polymathic intellect of truly Samoan proportions. And he tends to hang out with the politicos, such is the nature of his business.

I have a real gut hunch that the glitterati, money boys, and Very Serious People are walking into a serious encounter with reality due in large part to their self-inflicted insularity, the herd mentality of the privileged few, hubris beyond all doubt, and of course the credibility trap and the wonderful ability of people to rationalize anything that favors them in the short term, without regard to future risks.

Maybe they will get the wake up call as the presidential race unfolds. One of my favorite bellwethers are the TV political talk show hosts, on Sunday morning and in the evening on some of ‘those channels.’ And brother, they could not buy a clue for the most part, and seem to be in intense shock and denial. Only Gene Robinson seems to get it, and he is playing it cool so as to not shock his brethern who are clinging to their sinecures and the ‘old ways’ of doing business.

Its a classic. Marie Antoinette times Tsar Nicholas in an inability to read the great changes of their times. Wha’ happened??

Stocks managed to fight back to near unchanged today, with a little help again from oil which held its footing.

Once again the financial data sucked out loud. There is no recovery, it is a vapor, a phantom, a creation of the great spin machine of the airwaves. Years of policy errors, abusive growth of monopolies, the overturning of sound regulation, and the coup de grace, the pervasive political corruption enabled by Citizen’s United.

Tomorrow we get the Non-Farm Payrolls. That is often a best-seller in the fiction category. Watch the prior report revisions.

Have a pleasant evening.

“I want to give gold the benefit of the doubt but this rally has looked so tentative…”

Gold always takes the stairs up and the elevator down. You can bet the boys have been loading up the shorts the last couple of days.

Tomorrow will tell us a lot, not taking a shot on DUST but probably wouldn’t blame anyone who did.

Just wondering…

Posted by Richard640 @ 16:23 on February 4, 2016

I remember not so long ago  there were so many bearish posts [not on this forum but another I monitor] talking about 600 to 800 gold? One poster said he was expecting a “come to Jesus” moment for gold bulls and the miners to be utterly crushed before a final bottom? Well, I can recall 4 or 5 times over the past 4 yrs when the same calls for 600-800 gold were confidently and widely predicted there…and gold DID peer into the abyss but never tumbled down…so, I ask you, is there a good floor in gold now, around the 1030-1050 area? Is 600-800 gold off the table?

All bounces in gold–like this current one–over the past 4 yrs, have looked ragged and divergent…but major bottoms always look that way…and shut out the faithful gold bulls who have been patiently waiting… I am just as perplexed as anyone is…I want to give gold the benefit of the doubt but this rally has looked so tentative…

Any hardy souls taking a stab here at DUST before the jobs report? The action in silver is pathetic…

I’m pretty surprised and happy that we’re getting follow thru to yesterdays’ breakouts.

That being said I took my last bit of MUX off the table because the RSI was up close to 80 (learned from Floridagold)

I did buy some Primero (PPP) today at $1.96 as it is being beaten mercilessly. Probably early.

I am a little worried about the jobs report tomorrow but even more worried that Wanka used the “IT” word again. 🙂

GOLD IS ALSO A DEFLATION HEDGE, NOT ONLY AN INFLATION HEDGE

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 14:23 on February 4, 2016

Deflation proves no CONFIDENCE in TPTB’s ability of managing the economy and the financial system. The master planners made bad decisions a long time ago, 1975? and the negative results started showing up soon after.

The Arab oil embargo, wage price controls, interest rates to 21%, in the 1970s, market crash in 1987, etc etc etc. One stupid problem after another, all covered over in various ways until the summer 2008 meltdown and rates down to zero, and free money no doc liar loans to dead beats. Just to keep real estate going higher.

The Kerry article could not be found in the US Media since they censer what we see  .

DONT YA JUST LOVE THOSE ITALIANS !

Posted by Ororeef @ 13:45 on February 4, 2016

01

voyage of US Secretary of State to Italy almost ended in him getting a black eye. Having arrived on the Apennine Peninsula to talk about the victories of American democracy around the world, Kerry was not expecting such a warm reception.

Officially the purpose of the visit of the Secretary was a “small group meeting of the international coalition to combat “Daesh”. During his visit, he met with Italian foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, representatives from 23 countries and authorized persons of the EU. What they said actually, for me personally, is a mystery, because to discuss their “coalition successes” would take two seconds: “We fight? Fight! Thanks everybody, all are free to leave.”

Although, it’s likely that they discussed the cost of increasing support to “moderate opposition”, the kind like Jabhat al-Nusra, reducing the debit on the loan and everything. Kerry, as I see it, passionately spoke about the necessity of completing an unconditional victory over Assad, called to democratise the whole of Syria and not to pay attention to victims among civilians as a result of the “accurate” bombing of the coalition forces. But what do I know.

The most interesting thing happened at a joint press conference between Kerry and Gentiloni. When the Secretary of State said all of his memorized phrases on combating international terrorism and the Assad regime, and the Ministers were about to leave the room, suddenly one of the journalists sitting in the front row raised a banner denouncing the U.S. policy rhetoric, shouting at him “It was you who created ISIS!” and tried to charge at him with her fists.

Naturally, the woman was immediately pounced on by the carabinieri, a scuffle ensued. But she quickly left the room.
To be honest, I am saddened. Saddened by the fact that temperamental Italian women who spoke the truth in the face of even the US Secretary of State, was so quick to shut up. Even more frustrating is the fact that brave Italian macho kept silent in a rage and allowed the women to be insulted. It would be great if at least one of them completed the plans of the Italian journalist and gave John Kerry a black eye. It’s the least they could have done.

Migrants in Murmansk go too far with Russian girls: Some in hospital, some in jail

Sorry. Cologne is 1550 miles south of here.
newsli.ru, February 2, 2016*
Translated from Russian by Tom Winter
Translator note: as yet another German mayor advises girls to just keep their distance from migrants,** we see again and again a more gallant view from our Russian friends and acquaintances, and are spurred to publish this account, even though it cannot be, as the text itself explains, officially documented.

Migrants from the Middle East, hitting a night club in the Murmansk region, started harassing the Russian young women, and realized too late that they were not in the EU.

Though the police authorities have no wish to talk about it, in effect denying mass injuries to a group of migrants, all the same, local social network users are happy to share their commentaries on the incident.

Later on, the media were reporting that Norway expelled about 50 Middle Eastern and Afghanistan migrants for “bad behavior” back into Russia. Once there, the refugees decided to go out for some fun at the local “Gandvik” discotheque, and oblivious of where they were, decided to mash the Russian girls.

The problem came down to the fact that in Murmansk, there just isn’t the tolerance of enlightened Europe. Judging from the comments of local social network users, they tried to run away and hide, even in the private sector, but they were found and “educated.” If entire squadrons of police hadn’t arrived, the situation would have gotten really bad, especially in view of the frosts of Murmansk.

Still and all, judging by the identical reactions, the agents of law enforcement did not differ in tolerance level and while exhorting not to resort to lynching, secretly assisted in the educational process, news.li reported.

Results: 18 in the hospital, 33 in the local detention center, and a great desire to go back home. Official confirmation by law enforcement authorities is not forthcoming, as they have no desire to feed the West with any more fodder for the “Wild Russia” line.

“Welcome to Russia. We’re delighted to have visitors, but you mustn’t forget, you are guests here.”

This report was prepared from material on social network sites.

Massively rich person buys pharmaceutical co. he hikes price of life saving drug by 1000%. Many people can no longer afford the drug and suffer for it.

IMO this makes him a greedy pig no matter if legal or not … and if he broke the law then he should go to prison.

This is the kind of behavior which gives ammunition to the socialists.
