Fresh produce at the local supermarket about a tenth of the prices in the US . Meat about the same as USA prices . Typically no heating , no AC .
Went to an upscale restaurant on the weekend , and wife was outraged by the excessive prices – about $10 each . Bandeja Paisa ( translates roughly to peasant’s tray ) – a hearty meal of rice, fried plantain ( large starchy banana-like fruit ) half of a large avocado , beef hash , chorizo (pork tenderloin sausage) , chicheron (slab of fatback pork , scored deeply then cooked until crispy ) , beans , and a medium boiled potato , about $6 typically , in a decent restaurant .
