That reminds me back in 07 I guess because of accumulated contact with the greatest generation a navy veteran gave me detailed live action during WW11. He was on a aircraft ship. I encouraged him to write this it down possibly make a book out of it. I told as many as I could to do that while they can because they were real history not narratives written in books second handm I was making something for dinner just for myself that night and while things were simmering I found his message and started reading it. I couldn’t put it down so to speak, like reading how enemy aircraft attacked them when they had a ship full of fueled aircraft on board. Many things were exploding on fire. In short the gunners held their post shooting even when it was apparent a enemy plane was going to hit their deck. One of the gunmers did comitt suicide at that time because he told him he couldn’t go home like that. He was wounded and severely burned. He jumped the ship. I told him I almost burnt my house down reading it and forgetting about my dinner! He thought that was hilarious. He was in his 90s at the time. Have company have to go.
