Today, in talking about gas in mines to someone on X, I was reminded of my first trip as a #Mine #Rescue brigadesman and part of a “proto team” to a gas explosion in South Africa back in 1995. A grim memory that I can never forget and stills feels like yesterday.
I don’t like to talk about these experiences, they are painful, but I think it helped me a little to put it to paper, albeit with tears at one point. So it is not an entertainment piece, I hope it educates those who know nothing about mine rescue & warns some of my fellow miners to always respect the danger of gas in mines and the importance of good ventilation to mitigate it.
