Raúl G. Rodríguez Castro, 42, is a colonel in Cuba’s Interior Ministry who previously served as his grandfather’s personal bodyguard and aide. His political profile has risen sharply as Washington and Havana conduct sensitive behind-the-scenes negotiations.
Rodríguez Castro has recently held separate meetings with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, placing him at the center of an unusually important diplomatic channel between Cuba and the United States.
