I’ve seen so many young wanting to know more about their grandparents in the war and what unit they were in. In those days I guess they didn’t talk about it. I remember seeing baby picture of me and my father was in a Army uniform he never talked about it. My grandfather bargained for him to be in the reserves cuz he was jointing despite being the only surviving sibling. That was Korea era but you never hear about it.
Do you know these days only a small number are in shape to serve. Guess their gonna draft women.
I wonder if they’re getting more vocal now because they see what is happening to our country. Somehow they could talk to me if I could have the opportunity.
I talked to a 90 year old Italian American being on line who was in the navy on aircraft ships. Their ship got hit by Kamikazes or shot planes who flew in to the gassed up aircraft. He showed me some pictures. The anti aircraft guns were melted but he said the gunners kept shooting and were killed. Seems to me close to impact where outcome won’t be different don’t be a victim if they could jump. Their ship didn’t sink. I told him it’s important they leave their experiences behind. He wrote a lot and was reading this attack and then told him after you know I almost burnt my kitchen down because it made me lose track of time and had something on the stove. He got a kick out of that.
I think he’s gone now because he made a site and it went down.
One 101 airborne Vietnam said he was never gonna tell his daughter he was in because of the things he had to do. I didn’t ask but I told him she’ll find out and be doesn’t have to tell her what he did there. Another 101 during Korea I think told me they also dropped them in the wrong place over a town. I’m guessing it was during Korea era because one of them landed on telephone wires. Many more stories.
These politicians should really keep out of the economy because they always mess things up and usually Wall Street and bankers are envolved. If we didn’t have a depression they wouldn’t need war. And that’s before pay for play and selling us out. At least then it was our economy they were worried about.

Basically when I was young just the fact he was a glider pilot and served in WW II. He went to Boston University and later got his masters degree. Spent his life as an educator. Moved to Tucson AZ in his later years with his wife. Had a passion for airplanes. Founding member of Freedom Wings and was active at the Pima Air Museum as a volunteer. But wanting to be interned at Arlington National Cemetery shows where his heart was.
I’m glad he made it back. I hope you were able to talk to him about it.
I was able to talk to my grandfather about the Pacific part as a navy officer but never got a chance to talk to his brothers or brother in laws including pilots. One brother was in both wars in the army I and 11 and was in Europe. I don’t know where it was but they said it was so bad we don’t talk about it. Then inlaaww like you Marines.
I do wonder about the Korean War no one talks about. Those soilders get little attention.
My uncle Laurey was a WW II Glider Pilot US Army. In the years 1942-1945 the rank of Flight Officer was established for Glider Pilots. Similar to that of a Warrant Officer.
Most of us remember particularly the part we’re soilders parachutes get stuck on the church and becoming sitting ducks.
Here’s the story of that soilder who was captured by the Germans and escaped to join his troops.
The story you don’t know is the seasoned soilder that while dying from his wounds shot the Germans who were going to kill them.
He tells of how the weather caused them to land in the wrong place and how some landed in a burning barn the Germans set afire.
How he and another owed his life to this soilder.
Ps Ray didn’t die that day and it took awhile to get his right date. He died 8 days later from his wounds and gangrene. His wife didn’t even know. To make it worse some shirt denied his fathers request to send him home to me next to his wife and Rays mother.

I remember Black-outs,no lights allowed.Black shades required on windows.Car headlights half painted black..Ration stamps needed to buy Coffee,Sugar,Bacon…Air RAIDS with Searchlights looking for planes ..Submarines spotted off the NJ coast where I lived at the time.Even a German Spy had rented a room at a relatives house and was taken away after it was disclosed he was sending short wave messages to Germany..
I was a child during the WAR but have vivid memory s of what was going on.Had two uncles in the war,both survived.
That definitely is a reputation risking call, you could be a God or Dennis Gartman with that one.
