BTW – my wife and I have a good friend in FL who is a native Glaswegian and is home in Scotland visiting family and friends at this time . – Is very disheartened to see hijabs everywhere and the native culture disappearing . We became friends because although my ancestors on both sides left Scotland between 1745 and 1800 or so , my blood lines are pure Scot . My maternal grandmother , born in Nova Scotia in the year of Canadian Federation spoke no English until she started school and was told ( via an older schoolmate , translating the teacher’s words into Gaelic ), that from the time she left the farm gate to come to school , and returned to the farm after school, if she spoke anything at all , it would be in English , or be strapped . The entire community was Scottish – MacLeod’s , MacLean’s , Blue’s , MacNaughton’s , Cameron’s , etc.
