Some good news

Posted by Maya @ 0:36 on August 6, 2018

It appears our volcanic eruption is slowing down.  The summit crater has not had a collapse/explosion for several days now, and it has taken some pressure off the magma flow.   The fissure 8 flow has slowed way down to nothing overflowing the eruptive crater at this point.  The crater still boils, but does not overflow.   The existing river of lava is still draining downslope to the sea, but no new lava is being supplied at this point.   USGS cautions that the eruption is not over yet, and is always subject to change, but it has definitely slowed dramatically at this point.    Just in time to prep for hurricane Hector’s  close pass.   Volcano…. Hurricane… pick your disaster!
