Change ‘political correctness’ to ‘global central banks’ .

Maya – Great photo of the cog railway to Zermatt and the Matterhorn

Posted by Alex Valdor @ 12:03 on July 11, 2018

It brought back fond memories of that little train , and a wonderful Swiss girl that I had hoped to marry , over a half century ago (she would not consider leaving la Suisse and I knew I would never advance in my profession there , so it went no further , but the love doesn’t die ) . We spent a wonderful day in and around Zermatt and walking the rough path toward the Matterhorn . At the time , the train started in Visp , down in the valley .

Maddog – your recent post including mention of coins

Posted by Alex Valdor @ 11:52 on July 11, 2018

I can remember traveling in Italy , decades ago , when shopkeepers would keep a bowl of coins next to the register to make up the difference between the price rung up and the paper Lira tendered for the purchase . No one carried coins and it was a zero sum bowl .

I also recall a joke back in the day when the Lira bill sizes indicated the value . If you were stuck in a city and the hotels were all full , just make a tent out of large Lira bills – it would be cheaper .

BTW – I noticed your comment about the negative article about PM May yesterday – I hope you are correct , and that GB can recover its sovereignty – particularly over immigration. Otherwise , British traditions and culture will be lost forever . My wife and I have a very good friend in the USA who is from Glasgow . She is just beside herself about Scotland’s push to remain in the EU . In fact I would guess that she would prefer to see a Scotland independent from both the EU and UK .

Good luck in regaining Britain’s control over critical issues .

Not sure about how bad yr inflation is, as we know all official stats are garbage…but over here inflation grows daily.

Coins are rarely used, other than in change, both the £ 5 and £ 10 notes have been changed to a near plastic type, as the old paper ones were wearing out, due to usage, far too fast.

Two drinks in a Pub and u barely get change from £ 10.00 if any.

Gasoline is almost back to where it was at $140 oil !!!

Buygold-this inflation report and golds’ complete lack of response to it is exhibit A for the case

that gold doesn’t warrant much discussion. What can one say about a cadaver? The mortician did a wonderful job of making up the deceased?

This should be gold positive but….

PPI Comes Blazing Hot Rising Most Since 2011; Yields Spike

US Producer Prices soared at +3.4% YoY in June – far above the expectation of +3.1% – and to the highest level since Nov 2011. Energy goods and Trade services rose most MoM, but Food prices dropped 1.1% MoM.

Kentucky-You are correct. There is no reason for this site to be exclusively devoted to comments on G&S because

Posted by Richard640 @ 9:13 on July 11, 2018

there is little to comment about. Endlessly posting tech analysis is pointless because the manipulation renders it invalid…and thank G*d we don’t have a martinet like Vronsky lording it over us…if gold ever becomes a volatile, viable normal market again     the PM commentary will return…in the meantime I find this site a very congenial place to hang out. I have checked most of the other gold forums and they are ghost towns…

I wouldn’t be too smug if I were holding 2000 QID calls. The stock index futures were stopped early last night…

Yes from what I heard overseas you do have to have a cert to go out by yourself. These crash courses are risky as some of the things you described don’t get taught or just talked about without having them do it. I had a friend who was French who had all your training and more than one cert who told he all that before going out. I could of got certs through him but no time as a nurse. Unfortunately he got MS and died about 15 years after that. In the end was sad we had to watch him in mellow currents rafting after being such a good diver. When your muscle control starts to gonyou start losing confidence.
Always had trouble clearing a mask though but didn’t cause me panic just annoying. I knew with the demands of nursing I wouldn’t have time to scuba enough to make getting certified worth it, you can though go with those who do.
That’s another thing, equalizing and some of these guys don’t care enough to slow down for people who could damage their ears. They might for the first one then try to hurry up others. It’s Stupid so with that if your doing it more than once best to get certified and don’t have to deal with these hurry up places or waiting for others to learn things which is okay as little mg as their not ignoring the others.

Diving

Posted by Ororeef @ 23:38 on July 10, 2018

unless things have changed since my last dive a few years ago…you cant Rent a tank of air without showing your dive card from a certifying agency like NAUI,PADI,or YMCA ..its proof that you have done trainingto get at LEAST “open WATER” certification. Thats the Minimum to get passage on a dive boat in the US…outside the US they do not have mandatory rules .Mexico ,Bahamas want your money so they do the minimum like a 1 hour crash coarse which is absurdly risky .and they know it but usually restrict you to maximun depth of 30 feet which is almost risk free from bends. The biggest risk there is busted ear drum if you havent been trained to clear your ears as you decend by various techniques like holding your nose and gently blowing to equalize the pressure every foot down .some can do it simply by stretching the Eustacian tube as I do by sticking your jaw forward and clicking your ears every foot down….its possible to bust an ear drum in 10 feet of water if the pressure is not equalized and it CANT be repared ! Equalizing the pressure is a must !  As  I said, in the US YOU MUST SHOW A  CARD FROM A CERTIFING AGENCY as proof of training…I have trained under both NAUI and PADI ….If I recall correctly you cant teach diving without obtaining a MASTER level or the highest level which is “Instructor” from one of the certifying agencies.  It is NOT a teach yourself sport in the US…some people panic in two feet of water from anxiety and bolt for the surface risking  drowning .You must learn to remove your mask underwater and replace it underwater clearing it by ex hailing through your nose ..Thats minimum training along with ear clearing before you can dive in the US…as it should be….

Snorkling with mask & fins is a good alternative for those sqeemish in the water about diving its also the best way to start out …also if I recall there is a minimum age of about 12 even when accompanied by an adult parent for diving…Snorkling can be fun at any age…it also gets you comfortable wearing a mask and fins ,its the best way to start out.
