unless things have changed since my last dive a few years ago…you cant Rent a tank of air without showing your dive card from a certifying agency like NAUI,PADI,or YMCA ..its proof that you have done trainingto get at LEAST “open WATER” certification. Thats the Minimum to get passage on a dive boat in the US…outside the US they do not have mandatory rules .Mexico ,Bahamas want your money so they do the minimum like a 1 hour crash coarse which is absurdly risky .and they know it but usually restrict you to maximun depth of 30 feet which is almost risk free from bends.The biggest risk there is busted ear drum if you havent been trained to clear your ears as you decend by various techniques like holding your nose and gently blowing to equalize the pressure every foot down .some can do it simply by stretching the Eustacian tube as I do by sticking your jaw forward and clicking your ears every foot down….its possible to bust an ear drum in 10 feet of water if the pressure is not equalized and it CANT be repared ! Equalizing the pressure is a must ! As I said, in the US YOU MUST SHOW A CARD FROM A CERTIFING AGENCY as proof of training…I have trained under both NAUI and PADI ….If I recall correctly you cant teach diving without obtaining a MASTER level or the highest level which is “Instructor” from one of the certifying agencies. It is NOT a teach yourself sport in the US…some people panic in two feet of water from anxiety and bolt for the surface risking drowning .You must learn to remove your mask underwater and replace it underwater clearing it by ex hailing through your nose ..Thats minimum training along with ear clearing before you can dive in the US…as it should be….
Snorkling with mask & fins is a good alternative for those sqeemish in the water about diving its also the best way to start out …also if I recall there is a minimum age of about 12 even when accompanied by an adult parent for diving…Snorkling can be fun at any age…it also gets you comfortable wearing a mask and fins ,its the best way to start out.

Thanks for sharing. That brought to question the guy who drowned in the caves to save those kids. Why was he alone and if he knew more than half his oxygen was gone just getting there why did he try to get back unless there was another reason.
Don’t know where that stretcher video came from can’t find it now but others show a diver in front holding the child’s oxygen and one behind them. It looked like a big tank from drawings so too heavy for the child anyways. The child was wearing a face mask. On assent in one part they had to get over the areas too narrow so the kids have to separate from them to reach the top. I don’t know if the divers had to take the oxygen off their back to get through themselves.
The important thing if they or anyone new at it for that fact Trust. If they don’t trust them they will not want to go with them and will not trust if anything went wrong they could rely on them, something that is usually like you said a buddy system. You’ll see that in recreational diving where they can have so so divers despite training in a hurry out for money like they are in every sport now.
It is one sport that requires training from one person to the next unlike others you can learn yourself and your own limits.
I’m sure they took that in consideration and discussed that prior to their crash course and made sure each one was trained well enough to get through their first dive by the best in the business.
I was in the Bahamas many years ago and had a lesson in the hotel pool and then the next day went diving off a boat in the ocean. It was a blast although I sure wouldn’t say I knew what I was doing. I think I’ll just sit back and let others do the “cave diving.”
The situation in Illinois is so bad it’s frightening but you don’t hear much about it except for in the alt media. Their pension situation is already affecting their ability to provide vital services .. fire, police etc. and like you say … it won’t be long before they go to Washington with their hand out. What happens then? Are State budgets to be bailed out by the Feds? If they so it’s Venezuela Redux!

A delegation of 30 South African farming families has arrived in Russia’s farmbelt Stavropol region, Rossiya 1 TV channel reports. The group says it is facing violent attacks and death threats at home.
Up to 15,000 Boers, descendants of Dutch settlers in South Africa, are planning to move to Russia amid rising violence stemming from government plans to expropriate their land, according to the delegation.
“It’s a matter of life and death — there are attacks on us. It’s got to the point where the politicians are stirring up a wave of violence,” Adi Slebus told the media. “The climate here [in the Stavropol region] is temperate, and this land is created by God for farming. All this is very attractive.”
US Equity Futures Tumble As US Readies $200 Billion China Tariff List
Just when you thought it was safe to BTF Trade War Dip, a headline hits to remind you that President Trump is anything but done with China.
Bloomberg reports that President Donald Trump is preparing to release a list of an additional $200 billion in Chinese products to be hit with tariffs, according to two people familiar with the matter.
“The list could be released as soon as Tuesday, and likely this week”, according to Bloomberg sources. The publication of the list starts a weeks-long process that includes a public-comment period and hearings.
The potential unveiling comes as Trump is stil considering imposing duties on another $16 billion in Chinese goods, following a public hearing later this month. China, of course, as vowed to retaliate tit-for-tat and dollar-for-dollar to all future US tariffs.
The immediate result: Dow futures plunge 200 points in the blink of an eye.

I had some experience with Cave diving down in Mexico diving in Cenotes which are a system of domes that collapsed leaving a small lake at the surface ,but a system of tunnels branching off .We had a expert cave diver leading our small group and he had previously fastened a guide line to follow in case of a “white out”which is sediment stirred up by your kick movements ..part of training is to bend your knees when kicking to keep you from stirring up the bottom.It might take hours to settle out ,so best not to stir it up to start with.Its like being in a blizzard …if blinded follow the guide line with your hand to get you back to the entrance..WE were 5 miles in land on one dive and yet there was a “halocline”which is salt and fresh water that didnt mix in the Cenote ,it was also different temperatures one flowed over the other even though we were in land ..WE were on MAYA land and had permission from them ,we had shirpas assist with the gear that all had to be carried over rocky coral …Mexico has a hugh system of caves carved out by water .All this on the Yucatan about 60 miles south of Cancun ..It was all under the guidence of a fellow named Jim COKE a superb cave diver …It was just by chance that a local recommended it since that day the sea was too rough for diving and as an alternative he contacted the cave diver to see if he was available…We did not vary from his plan …..plan your dive ,dive your plan..

The Temple of Doom Mexico somewhat more risky ..the others mentioned I want nothing to do with ….as with videos the are a bit dramatic .None of them are for newbies….Running out of air means your are stupid had poor training and shouldent be diving ,you have guages use them…getting the bends also means you are stupid, follow the navy dive depth limits and your gauges getting the bends (narcosis)means you are not watching your depth gauges .. testing limits is a bad idea .there is a margin of safety built into navy dive depth tables ..stay with the rules dont stretch them..If you have lung problems ,anxiety panics, dont dive.Properly trained its a whole new world to experience of beauty and serenity.
has become a science in the hands of GOOD steady calm individuals ….Its NOT for everybody …you need to trust your equipment ,you have no choice …Thats why the buddy system is so important ..if a hose breaks your buddy better be close by to share his air with his spare regulator or have practiced” buddy breathing”in training..Its all about experience ,not book learning…..you need to get comfortable underwater know the rules,the depth tables for no decompression diving .Plan your dive and Dive your plan ..I have no doubt thats what they did in Thailand ..It took a very disciplined approach to pull off what they did …They certainly have my respect for thier accomplishment especially with untrained teenagers being given a crash coarse in cave diving ..WOW the stakes were high ! Those teens became men real fast !

In another 20 years, the Russians will own the wheat market. they have millions of acres available to farm but not enough farmers. Those South Africans will greatly enhance wheat production in Russia. Americans are lucky the southern most land available is in the same latitude as North Dakota so corn and soybeans would be tough to grow with the available rainfall. Wheat can be grown practically anywhere.

The “reset” date seems to be getting closer. The last big bust in the 1930’s included tariffs and shrinking the money supply. When the full effects of the tariffs start and the interest rates start up, California and Illinois will fold like a cheap accordion. Work weeks should have been shortened to 20 hours. Instead of 40. Increased productivity and efficiency should result in less man hours needed. Time off. But instead it went opposite. More man hours needed, wives working. Two 40hr jobs.
Now the opposite of all that, the major REVERSAL will hurt. Near term pain for long term gain.
Only the big corporations and third world nations benefited. Until TSHTF in 2008. Nothing left to give away from USA. No more no doc no money down lire loans to keep USA going.

The IDIOTS are having trouble with Oil prices. have you noticed? Oil is mostly out of control lately. When it hit $145/bbl (tptb blamed speculators) over capacity took hold and drove Oil down to $28/bbl.
The $29/bbl has obviously curtailed conservation, curtailed investment and production, and drained reserves. Now the dumb as a stump money managers have a rising oil situation along with a higher Dollar situation. An abnormal situation, while they are trying to restore the US economy.
Its like the prices ZIG, so the producers and consumers ZIG, and then the prices ZAG while the others are ZIGGING. 🙂 They have a complicated situation of their own making.
