*It was months into his campaign before he was forced to admit he was a Democrat. His first ads only mentioned things like cutting government waste, fighting corruption, etc. Many thought he was a conservative. He had no interviews on CNN up until the very end. He was avoiding best he could being tied to the Democrat party. Had a lot of folks fooled for awhile.
I think we have seen the new Demo strategy. Run a new, unknown, face, and try to pass them off as anything but a democrat. You can fool a lot of folks with simple one phrase slogans. Instead of running the old school democrats, they will be finding and funding new faces. Like they did with the unknown Obama.
They had a much, much, better ground roots boots (mostly young) out there beating the streets and registering voters. And were able to promote a lot of excitement among young and disenfranchised voters.
Handel tried to distance herself from the Trump folks, and almost never mentioned him except at the very end of the campaign when she had nothing to lose, and needed every vote since the polls had Ossoff slightly in the lead. If this is the future of Republican strategy, to distance themselves from Trump and the good things he is getting done, I am not sure that will work very well.
This should be a wake up call when a no name, been and done nothing, weird looking kid can make this a race in a long held Repub district, the Republicans almost blew it. 2018 races should be interesting.
