Doesn’t sound like Anthropic isn’t meant to take the place of humans but generate income on subscriptions by humans and compete with other tech companies.

Seems more sensible than fear mongering.

Anthropic makes money primarily through enterprise partnerships, cloud-hosted API usage, and consumer subscriptions for its AI assistant, Claude. The majority of its multi-billion-dollar revenue stems from large business customers and developer integrations rather than individual users. [1, 2, 3]
Enterprise and Cloud Partnerships
  • Cloud Marketplaces: Anthropic sells direct access to Claude via major cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS Bedrock) and Google Cloud (Vertex AI), where corporate clients pay to run workflows on dedicated infrastructure. [1]
  • Enterprise Contracts: Large institutions—including banks, law firms, and healthcare companies—sign high-value, long-term commercial contracts for secure, auditable, and customized AI deployment. [1, 2]
Developer APIs and Tools
  • Token-Based Pricing: Developers and startups pay usage-based fees through API calls calculated by the number of text or code “tokens” processed by Claude models. [1, 2, 3]
  • Specialized Tools: Advanced developer platforms and developer-focused products like Claude Code generate steady revenue from technical pipelines. [1, 2]
Consumer Subscriptions
  • Claude Pro and Team Plans: Individual users and small work teams pay recurring monthly subscription fees (such as $20/month) for priority access, higher usage limits, and advanced features on the consumer web and mobile app
