As of April 2026, Japan is actively importing U.S. crude oil and planning increased purchases to secure energy supplies as Middle East alternatives become necessary due to Strait of Hormuz disruptions. This shift involves rising imports from Texas, a major $36B investment in U.S. oil/gas projects, and potential Alaskan production to bypass high-risk maritime routes.
