The New Testament Wasn’t led by people who knew him because it didn’t fit the story by the one on the side lines who didn’t.

Jesus wasn’t being persecuted like other Jews and many of them for their beliefs and left to rot nailed to a post or cross depending on how interpreted because he was a Christian. Not until the next threat to Romans came along. He then would have been if a Jew didn’t beg to have him taken down.
They tend to hold on to this statement but as you mentioned ignore or unaware of the rest.
