This is ridiculous. The riots will be a permanent fixture. If you’re a Portland cop and you’re not looking into leaving then you’re a fool.

Block on GM rice ‘has cost millions of lives and led to child blindness’

Eco groups and global treaty blamed for delay in supply of vitamin-A enriched Golden Rice
Robin McKie
Published onSat 26 Oct 2019 12.05 EDT
Stifling international regulations have been blamed for delaying the approval of a food that could have helped save millions of lives this century. The claim is made in a new investigation of the controversy surrounding the development of Golden Rice by a team of international scientists.

Golden Rice is a form of normal white rice that has been genetically modified to provide vitamin A to counter blindness and other diseases in children in the developing world. It was developed two decades ago but is still struggling to gain approval in most nations.

“Golden Rice has not been made available to those for whom it was intended in the 20 years since it was created,” states the science writer Ed Regis. “Had it been allowed to grow in these nations, millions of lives would not have been lost to malnutrition, and millions of children would not have gone blind.”

Vitamin A deficiency is practically unknown in the west, where it is found in most foods. For individuals in developing countries, however, vitamin A is a matter of life or death. Lack of it is believed to be responsible for killing more children than HIV, tuberculosis or malaria – around 2,000 deaths a day. On a global scale, about a third of children under five suffer from the condition which can also lead to blindness.

Ipso – yeah, kind of looked like we were in trouble early on but then not so much. Pretty ugly close though. Hard to say what things are going to look like in the coming days.

Ororeef – I agree with Goldielocks. It’s all about money. They’ll charge you $1500 up here for a root canal and $200 to pull a tooth. I have a tooth with a crown that has come off a few times and every time they’ve told me I’ve needed a root canal. I’ve told them no, just give me antibiotics and put the crown back on or pull the tooth. The antibiotics have worked, the crown is still on. Things are fine.

Ororeef – definitely get that tooth out !

Posted by Alex Valdor @ 17:04 on August 12, 2020

Probably an upper – am I right ? If so and it gets abcessed , the infection can get into the blood stream , too close to the brain to ignore .

I honestly wish I’d never had a root canal , and there have been several . I would have been money ahead to get implants by a good orthodontist . I had one of the best in the country who corrected a botched root canal on a top front incisor . By the time I had him fix it , I had bone loss , so he had to restore the bone first ( six months ) , then insert the socket and let that stabilize for another six months , and finally mount the prosthetic tooth . Other dentists since then have remarked about the excellence of his work .

If I had taken better care of my teeth as a youngster , and put the money saved on later root canals and crowns (and follow-up repairs) into physical PM’s , I’d be a rich man today .

Geez what happened to our little rally … it kinda fizzled out.

Sounds to me it can me summed up in one word “ money.” There’s a lot of money involved in root canals than pulling a tooth. It depends on the tooth though. Sometimes you might need a oral surgeon type to get it out if there’s nothing much left on the surface to hold on to to pull the roots out.
You need to also let them know about your heart and any medicine your on particularly blood thinners before they pull it. Look for a oral surgeon type maybe.
Also don’t let a infected tooth hang around. It can get in your blood stream and even get to your heart and WCS toxic shock syndrome after pulling a tooth so unless you just finished antibiotics perhaps talk about taking it just before they pull it. I noticed a slight correlation between antibiotics and those taking Coumadin that their INR levels went up during that time.
If it’s difficult make sure they send you home with a pain prescription before the numbness wears off. You don’t want to bring your BP up either.

I personally don’t know of anyone that has had more tooth problems then myself. Been there done that. Make it easy on yourself. That endodontist gets referrals from other general dentists all the time. Those relationships is how he survives and prospers in practice. Call back the endodontist and ask him to give you referrals to a couple of general dentists that do pull teeth. He will have a ready list. Pull it and it’s over ….after a few days of antibiotics and soreness/swelling.

Looks to me like if you don’t have it now you’ll probably miss the whole run. I think it’s gonna happen in a hurry! But WTHDIK?

Possible Reason For That Gold Dip Last Few Days

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 12:22 on August 12, 2020

Possible a little jump in rates. The 10 year Bond went from .51 to .68%. Who cares? I remember the 1970s, Rates went from 5% to 21% lock step with Gold $140 to $800. Naturally it was a headwind for Gold back in the day, and if they DIDN’T keep raising the rate, gold would have gone a lot higher and the Fed Res system would have ended back then.

But the clowns always got lucky. Pulling rabbits out of their hat. I strongly suspect their luck was finally running out after their 2008 meltdown. After which the gave out 105% liar loans to maintain consumer spending.

Fed Gov’t conversation:

“Forget about giving them a raise, just give them a loan” “Even if they don’t pay it back, who cares?” “Its just paper money anyway” .

“Day by day the money-masters of America become more aware of their danger, they draw together, they grow more class-conscious, more aggressive. The [first world] war has taught them the possibilities of propaganda; it has accustomed them to the idea of enormous campaigns which sway the minds of millions and make them pliable to any purpose.

American political corruption was the buying up of legislatures and assemblies to keep them from doing the people’s will and protecting the people’s interests; it was the exploiter entrenching himself in power, it was financial autocracy undermining and destroying political democracy. By the blindness and greed of ruling classes the people have been plunged into infinite misery.”

Escape From New York: Wealthy Residents Flee In Droves As The City Degenerates Into A Hellhole

A single percent of New York’s population pays half of the state’s taxes, he said, “and they’re the most mobile people on the globe.”

“I literally talk to people all day long, who are now in their Hamptons house, who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house or in their Connecticut weekend house,” Cuomo continued. “They’re not coming back right now. And you know what else they’re thinking, if I stay there, they pay a lower income tax because they don’t pay the New York City surcharge. So, that would be a bad place if we had to go there.”

But New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is taking a completely different tone. At this point, he doesn’t seem to care whether the wealthy come back or not…

Mayor de Blasio couldn’t care less if wealthy people leave the city for good because of the coronavirus pandemic, telling reporters on Friday that he won’t bend over backward for the one percent to return to NYC.

In a briefing from City Hall, de Blasio for a second day in a row sneered at Gov. Cuomo’s suggestion that the Big Apple’s ballooning deficit can only be bridged if rich people who fled at the outset of the pandemic come back and start paying taxes again.

Mayor de Blasio can continue to deny reality if he wishes, but without a doubt the lack of revenue is starting to have a major impact.

The sanitation budget was cut by more than 100 million dollars, and at this point giant mountains of trash are starting to pile up around the city…

Photos show bags filled with leftover food scraps, cans and bottles piled high on sidewalks or overflowing out of corner litter baskets.

Dead rats have been found among the waste and raccoons have been spotted climbing out of garbage cans.

At one time such scenes would have been unthinkable in New York City, but now they have become a daily reality.

Meanwhile, crime rates are absolutely skyrocketing. In fact, the number of shootings in the city during the month of July was up 177 percent compared to the same month a year ago…

The NYPD recorded 244 shootings in July 2020 versus 88 in July 2019, which is a 177% increase. Shootings rose in July in every borough, police said. Through July 31, the city has experienced a 72% spike in shootings compared to the same time last year—772 versus 450 in 2019.

Murders in July rose 59% compared to last year with 54 in 2020 versus 34 a year ago. Burglaries were up 31% percent year-over-year. Police said 309 more auto thefts were reported for the month compared to a year earlier.

This explosion of criminal activity is being called a “crime wave”, and even the wealthiest neighborhoods are being hit hard…

New York City’s wealthiest neighborhood is grappling with a spike in armed robberies, new data reveals.

Manhattan’s Upper East Side has seen 27 robberies over the past four weeks – a 286 percent increase when compared to the same period last year, according to the NYPD.

Some of the wealthiest people on the entire planet call the Upper East Side home, and they paid a lot of money for their homes so that they would be insulated from this sort of thing.

But now even their neighborhoods aren’t safe.
