There are no copperheads or water moccasins in Wisconsin but sometimes water snakes are mistaken for them. There is quicksand under the water in places in Wisconsin so you have to be careful and sometimes leaches and rattle snakes. Illinois has them though. If you did see them that is interesting.

Mexican miners hit by proposed changes to code

Posted by ipso facto @ 18:56 on November 23, 2018

Shares in Mexican miners and companies with operations in the country were severely hit this week, as leftist President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is expected to approve proposed legislation that could restrict mining activity in the country.

Early this week, parliament members belonging to the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) party tabled bills to include environmental and indigenous community protections in the proposed revision of Mexico’s mining code.

MORENA and its allies hold majorities in both houses of Congress.

The new set of suggested rules already included tax hikes, but this week’s events increased investors’ worries over the future of existing operations, especially if conditions were breached.

Antarctic Sea Ice At 35-Year Record High On Saturday

Wikipedia Commons
Scientists cannot explain why the ice is getting thicker, stronger and colder, but they are sure that global warming will soon overcome the trend. This underscores the religious nature of the Technocrat mind. ⁃ TN Editor

Antarctic sea ice has grown to a record large extent for a second straight year, baffling scientists seeking to understand why this ice is expanding rather than shrinking in a warming world.

On Saturday, the ice extent reached 19.51 million square kilometers, according to data posted on the National Snow and Ice Data Center Web site. That number bested record high levels set earlier this month and in 2012 (of 19.48 million square kilometers). Records date back to October 1978.

The increasing ice is especially perplexing since the water beneath the ice has warmed, not cooled.

“The overwhelming evidence is that the Southern Ocean is warming,” said Jinlun Zhang, a University of Washington scientist, studying Antarctic ice. “Why would sea ice be increasing? Although the rate of increase is small, it is a puzzle to scientists.”

In a new study in the Journal of Climate, Zhang finds both strengthening and converging winds around the South Pole can explain 80 percent of the increase in ice volume which has been observed.

“The polar vortex that swirls around the South Pole is not just stronger than it was when satellite records began in the 1970s, it has more convergence, meaning it shoves the sea ice together to cause ridging,” the study’s press release explains. “Stronger winds also drive ice faster, which leads to still more deformation and ridging. This creates thicker, longer-lasting ice, while exposing surrounding water and thin ice to the blistering cold winds that cause more ice growth.”

But no one seems to have a conclusive answer as to why winds are behaving this way.

“I haven’t seen a clear explanation yet of why the winds have gotten stronger,” Zhang told Michael Lemonick of Climate Central.

A perfect close as per a Monday crash scenario–and the NYSE new highs/new lows lists just confirms….

The camp was 7 weeks and cost $500 total–the theme was indian–as were most camps in those days-wild blueberries and strawberries were in the woods surrounding the camp…as were bears and water moccasins, occasionally, in the lake…copper heads, too…

Trump says he/they got the Arabs to lower the price. If that true they must be trying to over ride higher Fed interest rates and a slowing economy. If its a natural decline its predicting or reflecting a big slowdown in global transportation of $4 drivers across 12,000 miles of land and ocean. Most likely or a combination of many things. Somethin big is gunna happen.

@Maya, re Train photos, they are neat, especially the ones going thru scenic areas of the country. They remind me of when we were kids, late ’50s I guess, an old vintage locomotive used to blast thru our local train station without stopping every day at 4:25 PM. My brother and I used to go on top of the trestle, used for people to cross over the tracks, and wait for it to pass right under us with all that noise smoke or steam  shooting up.

Morning Maddog

Agree, energy is definitely “scary weak” as you say.

Gold seems to be creeping towards flat as the SM opens, but we’ll see what happens.

All eyes on the pm stocks this am, because if we start to see some strength, we might have seen the bottom in the last couple of months.

Morning Buygold

Posted by Maddog @ 8:38 on November 23, 2018

The energy sector is scary weak……with Gold ‘relatively’ stable…that shud be good for PM stocks…..I know, I know…I will no go and wash my mouth out and lie down in a dark room, until sanity returns.

I see SM is looking crap…again…so PM’s have to be hit as well…..looks like the new game.

Gotta give some back today

Posted by Buygold @ 8:06 on November 23, 2018

Energy is getting crushed, a little surprised it’s not worse yet for pm’s

Oil down 5%, Nat Gas down 3%

USD up a little, rates down. They’ll probably try to hurt us on a light day.

Well, mm3, California has a lot of good looking trains, so I post ’em.  But my train roots are way up north by the great lakes.  In fact I have some French Canadian ancestry.  Grandpa was from Quebec.  And this is the train I knew as a kid…. “The 400”.  So named for the 400-minute schedule it kept between Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul.  This stop is somewhere along the way.

And SnG, that 85 year old REB, did his last name end in “stein”?

I filmed a street name in Cambria that has my last name. As for Coalinga, that place stinks…

macroman3 @ 23:51…That brings back ancient memories

Posted by silverngold @ 0:55 on November 23, 2018

At one time I lived in Cambria Pines CA close to Hearst Castle. I was a real estate salesman for United Farm Agency and also a Notary….just trying to get my business feet on the ground. My Dad was a restoration worker at Hearst Castle and my night job to put food on the table was the night janitor for Cerritos Restaurant in San Simeon. I next lived in Morro Bay and worked for an 85 year old real estate broker; sold a 1018 acre ranch for him in Coalinga CA and promptly got cheated out of the commission, but that’s another story. Small world my friend. Thanks for the memories.

For goldcountry, an extra special TG greeting from a Canuck who lived at his California ranch. Stay strong GC!
