here in Colombia , most homes have a reserve tank in the attic in case of loss of water pressure , and to add to the anti-seismic resistance of the reinforced concrete/rebar columns . Concrete has impressive compressive strength , and the weight of concrete upper floors and stored water keeps the columns under compression to avoid cracking during earthquakes. It works ! I have seen the walls and columns flexing during earthquakes without damage – very impressive .
I saw one with 10 000 liter capacity at the home center store the other day .
Most are more the 500 liter size .That is a half ton of water sloshing overhead during an event.
