U.S. Financial Markets Closed Monday; Limited Trading For Metal Futures

(Kitco News) – U.S. banks and financial markets will be closed for the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, although there will be limited electronic trading hours for futures markets, including gold and silver.

The U.S. equity and bond markets both will be shuttered. The foreign-exchange market operates around the clock from early Monday in the Asia-Pacific region until late Friday in North America, thus will remain open. However, volume is usually thin on holidays in major-market nations, such as the U.S.

Regular overnight electronic trading will occur for U.S. futures markets, including metals, through CME Group’s Globex platform starting at 6 p.m. EST Sunday until a halt at 1 p.m. EST on Monday. These electronic markets will reopen Monday at 6 p.m. EST.
