For me there are a number of issues that some people are not aware of concerning holding of stocks, apart from market fluctuations.
There is a shorting of stocks that are not eventually covered, and I feel that this happens a lot esp in PM stocks; and they can keep doing this until enough people wake up, after all they can create money out of thin air. This is similar to the re-hypothecation of stored gold bullion. I remember a few years ago reading about someone buying out all the known shares of a company, only to find that there were still millions of outstanding shares on the market.
The second issue that our shares are not registered to us unless we have a certificate.
The third issue for me is that if the markets are closed, we have no access to our investments. While I feel that bullion is the safest way to invest, barring confiscation, I am still about half invested in PM stocks. Hoping to cash out of stocks in about a year or so and pay off my debts, and live a comfortable life. And I know that this is a gamble.
Anyway, Good luck to all!
