The Norks got a free pass, because Bill Clinton’s SecState, Madeleine Albright, faked an agreement with Kim Jong-il in 2000, supposedly to stop uranium enrichment and missile development.

Then the Norks violated it, as everybody knew they would. Today North Korea has nuclear bombs and missiles.

Naturally, the media celebrated Albright’s “accord” with Kim Jong-il, and said nothing about the North Korean breakout.

Obama is playing the same sucker game in collusion with the mullahs, and the biggest betrayal is against us – against Americans who want our nation and the world to survive. Obama is copying Clinton’s kabuki script, kicking that nuclear can down the road, so that ultimately Republicans will have to deal with it. Then the Democrats will scapegoat the Republicans when they try to deal with the fallout. Bill Clinton had eight years to stop al-Qaeda before 9/11/01, but the media blamed George W. Bush.

But the biggest victims of Obama’s surrender are our former allies. America’s nuclear shield protected the world from 1949 on, when Stalin exploded his first bomb. Today, in response to the North Korean threat, Japan is rearming for the first time since World War II. They don’t say if they are building nukes, but the North Koreans won’t take them seriously if they don’t.

Is it any surprise, Greek PM Tsipras is pivoting to Russia?

As ekthimerini reports, the aides of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the Greek and Russian embassies in Moscow and Athens, are feverishly preparing for a scheduled visit by Tsipras to the Russian capital on April 8 and 9 which the Greek government hopes will serve to significantly upgrade bilateral ties.

According to a well-informed source, Tsipras is expected to seek agreement for a “road map” of initiatives on the political and economic levels.

 

Talks are expected to touch on several topics of bilateral interest, including “commercial and financial cooperation, investments, energy, tourism and cooperation in matters of education and culture,” according to Tsipras’s office. Other topics on the agenda include “the relationship between Russia and the European Union, as well as regional and international issues.”

 

Tsipras is expected to emphasize Greece’s respect for its commitments as a member of the European Union and NATO on the one hand while underlining his conviction that the European Union’s “security architecture” should include Russia. Amid European concerns about Greece’s position vis-a-vis EU sanctions against Russia, Greek officials have sought to offer reassurances, suggesting that Athens will not actively oppose the EU line. But sources close to Tsipras said the government will continue to express its disagreement with sanctions as a policy.

 

As for a likely bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, a high-ranking government source told Kathimerini that Greece “will reassure the Russians, not the Westerners.” According to sources, Energy Minister Panayiotis Lafazanis has already agreed in principle to a proposal made by the head of Russian giant Gazprom, Alexey Miller, for a new gas pipeline through Turkey to be extended through Greek territory. The plan foresees the creation of a consortium in which Greece’s Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) would play a key role along with Russian funds and possibly also European clients of Gazprom, Kathimerini understands.

It was just two days ago when we observed that during the latest Fed matinee, none other than Goldman’s Jan Hatzius presented a slide deck suggestively titled “Hiking Rates in the Name of Financial Stability.”

Said slide deck, in addition to hinting that the macroeconomy (not Goldman’s bonus pool mind you) may not be able to withstand the shock and horror of a 0.25% rate hike, also contained the following binomial decision tree (in which Goldman, with a straight face said that it was unclear if rate hikes “reduce bust risk”) designed to strongly “clue” the academic central planners in the Marriner Eccles building just how and when to act.

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) — Turkey’s gold imports climbed to the highest in more than six years last month as consumers boosted physical purchases after prices slumped.

Imports rose to 46.9 metric tons, the most since August 2008, from 6.6 tons in October, according to data on the Istanbul Gold Exchange’s website. Silver imports reached the highest level this year.

Gold touched a four-year low last month as the dollar rallied on bets an improving U.S. economy will spur policy makers to raise interest rates, curbing the metal’s appeal. The rout has sparked more demand for coins from the U.S. Mint and boosted trading volumes in China. Turkey was the fifth-largest consumer in the third quarter, World Gold Council data show.

“Turkish buying is helping not to remove, but at least reduce, the negative sentiment that has been widespread in recent months,” Ole Hansen, head of commodities strategy at Saxo Bank A/S in Copenhagen, said today by e-mail. Physical consumers have probably seen lower prices as a buying opportunity, he said.

Gold for immediate delivery reached $1,132.16 an ounce in London on Nov. 7, the lowest since April 2010. Prices dropped as much as 1.6 percent to $1,186.47 today as the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index reached a five-year high after a report showed the U.S. economy created the most jobs in almost three years.

A stronger dollar and higher U.S. interest rates reduce gold’s allure because the metal generally offers investors returns only through price gains. Hedge funds and other money managers have cut bullish wagers by 54 percent since early July, U.S. government data show.

Turkey’s silver imports increased to 35.5 tons last month from 23.7 tons in October, exchange data show. That was the highest since December.

Turkey’s silver imports climbed 67 percent to the highest on record last month as inbound shipments of gold declined to the lowest level since July, according to a person with direct knowledge of the data.

Silver imports rose to 54.6 metric tons in March from 32.7 tons a month earlier, said the person with knowledge of the data compiled by the Istanbul Gold Exchange. That’s the highest since at least 1999, data on the bourse’s website show. Gold shipments fell 10 percent to 1.9 tons, the person said. Silver retreated to a three-month low in mid-March, before rebounding, and Turkey has imported at least 32 tons of the metal every month since November.

Investor holdings in silver-backed funds are near the lowest in more than a year, and gold-backed assets are nearing the lowest since 2009 amid speculation that U.S. interest rates will increase, curbing demand for precious metals, which generally offer returns only through price gains. Silver is the best-performing precious metal this year, gaining 6.8 percent to $16.776 an ounce in London, according to Bloomberg generic pricing. Prices plunged 38 percent over the past two years. Gold traded at $1,200.50 an ounce in London on Friday, up 1.4 percent this year.

During a downtrend price is one step forward, two steps back, and gold has been seeing that for more than 3 1/2 years. During an uptrend it is two steps forward, one step back. Suppose our last $25 up day was the first of a continuing uptrend and that represents two steps forward. Then one step back would be a down move of $12.50 followed by another up move of $25….and so on. If this is where we are and that was to happen, by the end of April gold will be $1333; by the end of May gold will be well over $1400; by the end of June gold will be over $1550…..and so on.
