Greece debt crisis: Eurozone backs reform plans

Eurozone finance ministers have approved reform proposals submitted by Greece as a condition for extending its bailout by four months, officials say.

The Eurogroup said it had agreed to begin national procedures – parliamentary votes in several states to give the deal final approval.

The measures offered by Greece include combating tax evasion and reforming the public sector.

But the head of the IMF said they lacked “clear assurances” in key areas.

Greece’s debt stands at more than €320bn (£237bn), and its current €240bn bailout expires on Saturday. Fresh funding will not be released until Greece’s proposals are approved in detail.

The stakes of talks over continued financial aid have been high because of fears of a Greek default that could push it out of the euro, triggering turmoil in the EU.

The main stock market in Athens rose by nearly 10% on Tuesday afternoon, hitting a three-month high.

You’re welcome Equis. 🙂

Yeah I miss cannuckgold and a bunch of other people as well. I suspect most will be back when our market turns up and maybe we’ll get some new posters as well.

ipso_facto @ 10:53. Thanks, I knew that before the Fraser Institute said it, but of course I am biased.

I miss having Cannuckgold to chat with on this forum because as a native son of Saskatchewan I could discuss natural resource matters of common interest to us in that province. Thanks for continuing to post news clips from the mining industry on this forum. I appreciate your efforts to bring them to our attention. Cheers. Equiz

Canada’s Saskatchewan second only to Finland as world’s top mining destination

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:53 on February 24, 2015

Saskatchewan is the most attractive jurisdiction for mining investment in Canada, and the second best worldwide, according to the latest annual global survey of mining executives released Tuesday by the Fraser Institute.

Canada’s policy think-tank’s Annual Survey of Mining Companies 2014, rates 122 jurisdictions around the world based on their geologic appeal and the extent to which government policies encourage exploration and investment.

This year, the potash and oil-rich prairie province was placed at the top by executives surveyed between August 26 and November 15, 2014.

Zambia president says to prevent job losses at Barrick Gold’s mine

23rd February 2015 By: Reuters

LUSAKA – President Edgar Lungu said on Monday his government would not allow mining jobs to be lost at Barrick Gold’s Zambian copper mine after the company said it plans to close the business due to high royalties.

More than 2 000 unionised workers at the Lumwana copper mine owned stopped work on Monday demanding to know what will happen to them when the company closes the business.

“The Head of State has assured that government will not allow a single mining job to be lost and has accordingly directed the Ministry of Mines to ensure that operations at Lumwana Mine are not idled for care and maintenance,” he said in a statement.

The ONLY really good years were 1945 to 1975, and it was not intended. Any prosperity after 1975 was false and misleading. Artificial stock market booms, retail store booms and real estate booms. No more manufacturing and higher wages booms after ’75, unless they were supported by tax PAYERS for space and defense spending related.

and here comes the Yellen smash

According to the WSJ, “prosecutors in the Justice Department’s antitrust division are scrutinizing the price-setting process for gold, silver, platinum and palladium in London, while the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has opened a civil investigation, these people said. The agencies have made initial requests for information, including a subpoena from the CFTC to HSBC Holdings PLC related to precious-metals trading, the bank said in its annual report Monday.

HSBC also said the Justice Department sought documents related to the antitrust investigation in November. The two probes “are at an early stage,” the bank added, saying it is cooperating with U.S. regulators.

Who is involved in this latest gold-rigging scandal? Why everyone! … which makes it immediately obvious why the European regulator had to promptly cover up the whole affair. Under scrutiny are Bank of Nova Scotia , Barclays PLC, Credit Suisse Group AG , Deutsche Bank AG , Goldman Sachs Group Inc., J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Société Générale SA, Standard Bank Group Ltd. and UBS AG , according to one of the people close to the investigation.
