as I said to ferret…the mkts are all over the place o/n….presumably the ruling will be overturned…..but Bannon reckons there definitely will be a Constitutional crisis soon and that looks to be where yr headed……Unless Roberts grows some.

If nothing else I’m very glad I am not the silver short !!!

Maddog,

Posted by ferrett @ 5:53 on May 29, 2025

I think “all over the place” sums up mkts since January 20th (or a bit before).

I read an article on functional unemployment on ZH today, a phrase which I had totally misconstrued. It means part timers who can’t get a full time job through no fault of their own. Although they are categorised as ’employed’ for statistical purposes, they can’t live off their earnings and are a victim of government apathy.

I had previously thought that it meant people who had jobs which were unproductive. Bureaucrats, lawyers, most accountants especially tax ones, most police, uni lecturers, judges, politicians etc etc. In the sense that although they have a function, they don’t actually do any work, productive work. And often their ‘work’ is actually counterproductive, getting in the way of producers with rules and regulations, forms that need ticks here there and everywhere. So they are basically unemployed, but still have a function.

There is a basic similarity between the actual definition and my wrong definition. Both have something to do, but neither can get full time productive work. The difference is that my ‘functionally unemployed’ are usually incapable of anything productive, nor do they have any desire for such a position.

Not sure the mkts are taking the latest mad ruling seriously …if they were Bonds would have cratered, big time……though I must say the reactions are all over the place.

Can silver carry the ball?

Posted by Buygold @ 5:11 on May 29, 2025

It may have to today. It’s up 1% this am, while gold languishes. Gold lost about $10 more in the AH yesterday, so GLD actually is down about 1/2%.

SM is roaring again on NVDA’s earnings. Oil up another 1%. Crypto up across the board. As maddog mentioned, 10 yr. back at 4.52% which is strengthening the dollar a little. They better get that fixed.

PM shares on either side of flat in the premarket. The good thing is that gold was down a lot more in the overnights and has fought its way back.

GDP numbers today – should suck.

Two more sessions and month-end is over.

Yeah, SMR has been on quite the roll, especially in the last week. Their small modular tech is part of the future for US nuke energy. Trump is unleashing energy of all forms, but nuke makes the most sense. All he had to do was deregulate and get the government out of the way, so these guys can get online. The DOE and NRC have been a drag on innovation for decades when it comes to nuclear energy. They take forever to approve anything and make the most ridiculous punitive demands on the industry. Just like all government, people creating jobs for themselves and power hungry. They stifle innovation and industries. Trump’s new guy is brilliant and is unleashing them.

It’s really too bad that Republicans, especially in the Senate, but the House also, are just like the rest of government. Self-important, useless eaters that steal and slow us all down. If they stay out of the way, nuke’s future should be very bright for at least the next few years. Imagine if all that wind and solar money had been directed into real energy like nuke, coal, and oil. Our economies would be so strong. The goal should be to make energy free, for all countries.

agd

here is an hrly chart showing to the back tests……but 33.70 remains the main break out.

that any headline that comes out after US trading hours ( however trivial) gets magnified to the downside for the PM’s ( especially near the end of a month).

If that happens I just hope we can stay out of it. A little easier for you Aussies. Maybe it would scare the Germans so bad that they’d push for a peace deal? Who needs a world at the brink!

“Stalingrad” Yep bad strategy for the Germans. Should have just bypassed it and cut it off.

could happen

Not the Chinese, for sure!

ipso 15.37, yes, a new dimension.

Posted by ferrett @ 17:51 on May 28, 2025

The Russians won WWII in 1943 when they defeated (eliminated?) the Wehrmacht after a six month battle and a million Russian lives at Stalingrad. Hitler made a terminal mistake in insisting they try to take Stalingrad.

Merz now wants to start WWIII. Without a functioning army, so they are assuming that everyone else will rush to their defence.

Shakes head.

ferret – good question

Posted by Buygold @ 17:50 on May 28, 2025

I have no idea who would buy our bonds.

Saudi’s? UAE?

Cap’n, 13:11, not any old farm.

Posted by ferrett @ 17:27 on May 28, 2025

You want to be on a farm where the farmer doesn’t have modern equipment – because that is all on Skynet.

I’m on a beef farm atm. The farmer is much preferring his old tractors as they break down less, but he doesn’t actually understand the implications of the technology that keeps failing on the JD being linked wirelessly to base. The Deere is hopeless, the 20yr old Case and Internationals may have high hours but are easy to fix, even if they break down mechanically more often.

AI will take out a technologically modern farm as quickly as a distribution warehouse.

Buygold 8.29, yes, but who is buying them?

Posted by ferrett @ 17:19 on May 28, 2025

The 10yr is nearly back up to 4.5% again – so people are buying bonds and selling them. Who are the foreigners picking up the slack?

That would shake things up …

Posted by ipso facto @ 15:37 on May 28, 2025

Word in Moscow is if Merz uses German weapons to strike Moscow – and we all know that Kiev has no independent capacity to operate Tauruses or other long-range missiles – then Russia will have no choice but to strike Berlin directly.

Silver shares continue to impress

Posted by Buygold @ 15:25 on May 28, 2025

EXK is the only straggler among those that I watch. AG has been strong the last couple of days. HL firm as well. SSRM, SVM holding their own. Even Dolly Varden is joining the party today, up 5% on better than avg. volume.

They’ve got to be saying something with the metal down the last couple of days.

Greater days ahead.

With the debt the US and others have wouldn’t be a doubt. Energy too for AI demands Canadians can take advantage of with medium oil companies along with uranium the other commodities. .

Waiting for that big move toward $5K by year end. 🙂

It could happen ya know. 🙂

Ipso – I think your graph is going to be very prophetic in the not-too-distant future and the general public will end up chasing.

You want to be on a farm for food security …

Posted by Captain Hook @ 13:11 on May 28, 2025

… because if the government does not kill you … AI will eventually reach singularity (consciousness) and likely carry out a self-determined defense protocol involving the neutralization of humans – their chief threat.

The Vigilant Fox ? on X: “DISTURBING: OpenAI’s latest model DISOBEYED a shutdown order—then rewrote its own code to stay alive. If you think Skynet is just science fiction, think again. An Artificial Intelligence model built by OpenAI was given one simple command: shut yourself down. Instead, it rewrote https://t.co/AVmWfATLJh” / X

Who knows what this means … but at a very basic level … the machines might be able to disable supply chains … poison food sources etc.

The international banking families have fast tracked AI for some reason … is this it?

Even if that’s not the reason … it might turn out to be an unexpected consequence (benefit to them?).

Skynet is coming to a theater near you if we don’t shut this crap down.

Have a nice day.
