It’s not just the swimming it’s the rips that can pull you out. I used to swim up stream in fast rivers for endurance for surfing when younger. Well all else fails you could park at the schools and stay in the car on the other side of the wind and take the dogs out to go to the BR and use the schools facilities just bring a flash light.
I’d say you could put them away from the surge in a dog hotel but me doing that before in a nice one cost me 70 a night but it was a dig hotel cave so big you or I could walk in and stand up elevated bed and TV with dog shows plus multi play times and a pool. I could get desks for me less than that. They have much cheaper ones though.
BUT they require a list of vaccines here beyond the norm like rabies like for Kennel cough.
So worse comes to worse get out camp out in car you can take turns going inside.
Look for dog friendly hotels.

We are in mandatory evacuation down here in the Manasota beach area. I am in the highest flood zone area and the surge is going to be a problem.

Problem for me is where to go. I’m going to check with our church which is outside of the hot zone to see if there’s somewhere to hangout. Hotels will be a problem I suspect and frankly, which way do I go? North? Nope, that’s toward Tampa. Maybe Northeast – hell I don’t know. The flooding may be as bad in the middle of the state because of the amount of rainfall.

I guess I can stay, I’m not sure if they arrest you for staying. I’m just not sure quite what to do at the moment.
