One of the richest but not the smartest with cohabiting with the environment and wildlife and other Gods creatures.
Every year, tens of millions of birds fly thousands of miles across North America, stopping at Pecan Island in Louisiana to rest and feed along their epic migration.
Snow geese arrive in enormous flocks. Endangered whooping cranes — one of North America’s rarest birds, still fighting back from the brink of extinction — depend on this habitat too.
But now Musk wants to build a massive SpaceX base slap bang in the middle of this flyway. Thousands of rocket launches could shatter this wildlife haven with deafening noise, explosions and falling debris — threatening exhausted birds at the most vulnerable moment of their journey.
The good news: local opposition is strong and environmental protections could help stop Musk’s plans.
But the Federal Aviation Administration is pushing a plan to waive 13 environmental laws for aerospace projects — stripping away the very protections standing in SpaceX’s way.
This is the government doing the world’s richest man’s bidding.
