Recently U.S. intelligence services reportedly warned several European governments about a possible Russian operation involving drones launched from commercial vessels against targets in southern Europe, according to Euronews.
The reported scenario involves Russian drones with ranges of 600 kilometers potentially being launched toward Spain, France, or Italy from ships appearing to be normal commercial traffic.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has urged governments not to panic while acknowledging the danger.
“Our assessment is that the Russian threat exists and is a long-term one,” Rutte said, according to a NATO report provided to Euronews.
He urged European allies to “remain calm, carry on, and continue to support Ukraine.”
The concern intensified Thursday when Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Service, known as FE, released a new unclassified threat assessment.
