I guess the true story will come out eventually. Carriers are notoriously vulnerable … a floating gas station with bombs! More AA systems are needed and not the ones that cost millions a shot.
Gerald Ford.
Depends where the missile went in. If it went in at the stern and exploded inside, then a quick patch up job would suffice. Nobody seems to have got any close-ups of anywhere. A laundry fire? That burnt for 30 hours? On a warship? These things are designed to fight fires anytime, anywhere. They are designed to cope with being hit and yet a laundry fire puts it out of action for a year? First Cyprus and now in Croatia, this still ‘mission ready’ lump of scrap is far from the action. Maybe Cyprus was too close where it was still in range of Iran.
What’s more embarrassing, being hit by a missile during combat, actually, during the first time it has seen combat (or maybe, if it was blown up by a missile up the exhaust port it never actually saw combat!) or put out of action by a laundry fire? What is so imflammable in a laundry anyway? I thought they were full of water.
I see that Kuwait has boldly destroyed another Iranian missile in a port in Dubai, using a fully laden oil tanker.

Re Gerald Ford
As the Carrier is now in Crete, the damage should be easily visible and if they hit it once why not twice or more and why not other ships……
but summat is up as AU just got smacked sub 4500 and then took off…….might be a signal of a turn…..or near turn.
I dunno.

BREAKING NEWS :
CARRIER GERALD FORD WAS HIT BY A LOW YIELD MISSILE !
Russian Sources Confirm Iranian Missile Strike Cripples USS Gerald R. Ford – Not a Laundry Fire
In a stunning escalation of the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, Russian intelligence sources are confirming that a precision-guided Iranian missile directly struck the rear compartment of the USS Gerald R. Ford, America’s most advanced nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
The impact targeted the critical aft section of the angled flight deck, the area specifically dedicated to aircraft recovery operations. This zone houses the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system, designed to safely halt incoming planes with electromagnetic cables. The strike has effectively neutralized the carrier’s ability to recover and launch aircraft, dealing a severe blow to U.S. naval air power projection in the region.
According to the Russian sources, the missile caused extensive structural damage, fires, and system failures in the stern area, including impacts on defensive weapons positions and nearby sponsons. Unlike official U.S. Navy statements attributing the incident to a routine fire in the ship’s main laundry area, these reports explicitly rule out any such benign explanation.
“This was no laundry fire,”
“The damage profile matches a high-explosive warhead impact on a vital operational zone.”
Military experts note that the rear recovery section was a perfectly planned location for Iranian forces to hit.
Disabling aircraft recovery renders the massive carrier far less effective as a floating airbase, even if it can still move under its own power. The Ford-class design emphasizes high sortie rates, but with the arresting gear compromised, flight operations are severely restricted or impossible until major repairs are completed.
This development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where the Gerald R. Ford was serving as a key asset in U.S. operations. Iranian forces reportedly executed the strike with remarkable precision, exploiting vulnerabilities in the carrier’s positioning during active hostilities. The attack highlights the reach and accuracy of Iran’s missile capabilities against even the most defended naval targets.
U.S. officials have so far maintained that the ship remains “fully mission capable” following what they describe as a contained onboard fire, with the vessel currently in port for maintenance.
However, Russian confirmation of combat damage raises serious questions about the true extent of the incident and potential cover-up efforts.
The neutralization of the Ford’s aircraft recovery capability could force significant adjustments in U.S. strategy, potentially requiring other carriers or land-based assets to fill the gap.
Damage assessments are ongoing, but initial indications suggest the carrier could be sidelined for an extended period.
This breaking story is developing rapidly. Stay tuned for further updates as more details emerge from multiple intelligence sources.

He’ll be fighting a civil war, but I wonder what side the German gov’t. will take.
I’m at the point where all of this, the war in Iran, etc. is intended to bring the world economies to their knees and usher in the one world gov’t. and their CBDC’s. I don’t see how the US avoids it either.

RE Linux……been running Linux Mint for 20 years ….down load a copy onto a thumb drive , then u can try it out without installing, by loading it from Boot….find out which F Key yr computer uses to Boot….then turn on yr puter while holding down the relevant F Key….and u will get the choice to Boot from the USB……It will run a bit slow, but u can see all that it has…which is everything u can dream of.
If you like it either choose to dual boot where you split the hard drive, thus keeping Windows, or do an install where it wipes the disk clean and u only have Linux……
U will find yr old computer flies…..there a great forums which will answer all yr questions if u have any…… I will help if I can
Enjoy the best operating system around…..
Ps much simpler to a complete install .

Reliable partner? By using us as their proxy? When have they participated in anything with us or anyone lately. Last I heard they were using broomsticks in place of rifles for training. Your probably right about the only thing he’ll be doing in a few years is hiding from the invaders while they disarmed their citizens.

Yes, why would he say that? Is he looking forward to it … as he sits deep in a bunker somewhere. I think he’s more likely to be fighting a civil war against the invaders!

That’s an interesting statement. Not so much that we are unreliable as a defense partner – we should get out of NATO, but that he thinks he’ll be in conflict with Russia in the next few years. Why? Unless he’s planning on starting a war with them. Not sure what Europe has anymore that Russia would want.

Linux suggestions
I want to change to linux on my few years old desktop.
Any suggestions on which version to install? And/or websites for help?
I am moderately tech experienced.
Don’t play the hard-core animated games, so that performance is not important.
Just browse, watch videos, read documents, occasional zoom meetings, etc.
Windows, hard-drive, etc. can be completely wiped – haven’t had it long, so nothing of mine really saved on it. Any reason to leave Windows and insyall linux side by side?
Thank you

I used to own them and have been watching them for many years. They always seem to be improving, modifying, developing … but they almost never make any kind of profit. I look forward to the day when they do!
