It became clear 25-30 years ago that the numbers were being fudged. Nobody ever meets their GDP targets to within one tenth of a % year-in year-out, especially when the target was always 5%, later 7%. So when the 64m empty apartment statistic came out in the mid-noughties the explanation was clear; capital misallocated into speculation. Complete with roads, railways and bridges to nowhere, followed by as you say the ghost cities, dozens if not hundreds of them, all build with the help of Aussie coal and iron ore pushing our $ way above parity.
So tariffs aren’t going to affect Chinese GDP at all. 🙂
One can imagine that there are two factions at work in China. The Xi faction determined to not back down from Trump for nationalistic purposes, and the non-Xi one more concerned about social unrest. Because Trump is going to tariff China anyway a certain amount of social pressure will occur regardless, which you would think would strengthen Xi’s hand. In for a penny, in for a pound.
Their military is untested. What can be deduced is that its structure is very political with all ranks selected on the basis of connections, CCP affiliations and bribes. It is going to be totally dysfunctional if it ever comes to battle which is probably quite dangerous as when the invasion of Taiwan, for example, starts going pear shaped the temptation will be to save face by escalating with nukes, which may or may not work either. Especially if Taiwan strikes the dams.
As Buygold said a week (decades ago!) none of the above could be construed as negative for gold – not that we want to find out whether China’s nukes work or not under any circumstances!
Thank you for that. I saw it was in a down trend, short interest isn’t too bad and no numbers that hint of a possible short squeeze. The inside selling is concerning. I haven’t read their financials. On the Pros the selling happened for either TA and or political before China declared a ban. Then President Trump is considering a executive order to stock pile it. Sounds like a good idea anyways ban or no ban.
Sounds like you got yourself a doctor that learned the frontal way which should heal faster and less drainage since your using a 7 day dressing which is usually water proof for showers not baths but it will adhere better if you can wait.
Be careful with the chlorhexidine it is cytotoxic so if you have any scratches it could burn maybe put a dab on if doing it yourself at home want a few minutes to see if it bothers you. Keep it away from soft tissue areas just only on regular skin.
Yes those surgery’s are a blessing for so many. PT physical therapy will probably come get you up sap.
When turning in bed try log rolling and roll to unaffected side keeping affected side aligned. To get up drop your legs while using your arm to push up, sit there for a minute cuz you just had surgery plus drugs a few reasons don’t just try to jump up plus your BP will drop when you rise. So you don’t fall.
I agree, it’s hard to know what is true that’s coming out of China. They are certainly a manufacturing powerhouse but they’ve put a lot of borrowing and capital towards unproductive areas … like the ghost cities, which may fall down before they’re ever needed. Debt is a big problem there just like here. I’ve heard that speculation that millions more people in China died of Covid than was reported. Who’s to know!
“Because at the end of the day, I still don’t know anything. 🙂”
LOL Ain’t it the truth!
Armstrong: “The EU leaders let the Jihadis in by accident-ineptness.”
LOL A tragedy! I really can’t see this as being true. Would make me question Armstrong a bit.
He’s convinced that China is the power and takes it a step further to say that if the EU were to join Ukraine and attack Russia, China would join Russia.
The odd thing to me about Armstrong is that he chalks up what’s happening to Europe just as inept EU leaders that didn’t know what they were doing when they brought in all the Jihadi’s. Hard to believe they are just that dumb.
However, he says that China will not back down on the tariffs and they’ll stay firm while Trump capitulates. I guess we’ll find out.
What a time to be alive. The truth is I quit following all this stuff for almost a year and was better off not knowing anything. Because at the end of the day, I still don’t know anything. 🙂
The more I read and research about China, the more I think that outside of nuclear capabilities they are even more of a paper tiger than we are. I’m also concerned with them making a play for Taiwan out of desperation, but China has a massive Achillies heel – The Three Gorges dam. Taiwan could actually reach that with ballistic missiles. The dam is not that well-built, and they’ve had problems, admitting in 2020 that it is “deformed” but still “safe.”
Were it to collapse, they estimate that 1.3-1.9 million people would be killed. Worse than that for them, it would wipe out a huge swath of their manufacturing capabilities.
There’s also a big question out there as to the death toll in China from Covid and their actual population numbers. It may be significantly less than the 1.4 billion they claim. Hard to know exactly, I’ve heard numbers of dead from Covid in the hundreds of millions. Seems crazy to me but I don’t know.
We don’t seem to be that worried about them. Maybe we’re making a mistake, or maybe there’s a reason for that.
We’ve swallowed a lot of fear porn propaganda here in the US about our adversaries. A lot of propaganda about a lot of things.
I don’t know.

“Xi and his #2 just had their mistresses arrested.”
Wow I wouldn’t have thought that anyone would have the power to do that!
Well, if China’s on the ropes then we should get a fair deal without waiting too long. Just hope they don’t get desperate and go groping for Taiwan or something!
I have an excellent, Board Certified, young Ortho surgeon here who is meticulous about sterility & infection prevention. I will be doing surgical scrubdowns with chlorhexidine for three days before surgery. ‘Minimal invasive’ frontal incision, and they cover it with a long, thick patch afterwards that stays on for 7 days. I can’t get it wet. No showers. Wipe downs only during that time. They keep me in hospital for two days afterwards for checks and therapy. Yes, I can have my phone, and taking my kindle to read stuff for the boring hours.
I endured 10 days in hospital on liquid diet when I had colon resection 5 years ago, so this will be much easier to tolerate. The food is good there, too! Not looking forward to PostOp pain, but I’ve been enduring 3 years of pain trying to walk on it, so what’s new? Looking forward to be able to walk with no pain.
Other friends who have had this Doctor are greatly pleased with the outcomes, knees and hips.
that the SM is up, and the bond market is well bid with the 10 yr down 9 bips to 4.37%, below the death crossing of 4.5% where the world comes to an end.
How is that possible with China cutting us off from all rare earths?
Further, why would Nvidia announce that they were investing $1/2 Trillion in new plants here in the US to build super computers? Shouldn’t they be investing in China?
Maybe that good old favorite Silver miner will finally catch up to the others. Its has been one of my under performing dogs.
part: “AG announced that its total production reached 7.7 million silver-equivalent (AgEq) ounces in the first quarter of 2025. The figure includes 3.7 million silver ounces and 36,469 gold ounces. The AgEq ounces produced marked a solid 49% year-over-year increase, attributed to an 88% surge in silver production.”
That’s what I meant about doing “research” China isn’t nearly as strong as we’re led to believe.
The Globalists put all their eggs in the Chinese basket and it appears China isn’t as good of a partner for them as they thought. Probably why Larry Fink is losing his mind. They love how China controls their people as a model for us, but forget that rats nests tend to grow in Godless societies. Some pretty ugly rats nests in Europe developing as well.
Xi and his #2 just had their mistresses arrested. Apparently there’s people powerful enough to pull that off in China. Further Xi just arrested two of his highest ranking generals for speaking bad about him. One of his generals was smart though and had files of 1800 officers that had also been critical of Xi.
You can also find endless videos of factories being shut down and product sitting on lifeless barges with nowhere to go.
I think the popular stocks have peaked at the end of last year. Miners are somewhat under priced but coming back strong with Gold. I don’t have any confidence in rare earth stocks either. MP or rate earth I see is up 53% in 6 moths but on highs, plus a lot of insider sales.
Gareth Soloway A good chart reader. He would probably short MP now re chart. He reports every morning for 20 minutes, and talkes about gold and selver near the end.
You have contributed too even if trading or not trading I enjoy the hobby. I’ve been watching this MP. It looked like it was trying to fill a gap at approx 18.50 before this news but last year it also made a gap it didn’t fill and continued up. It filled one gap at the top another time which is a good time for a sell signal but has been consistently moving up. If watch the phone stocks cuz I’m not sure if the markets bears are done yet so watch the dollar I guess.
They’re excuse for a real ID is that they’re giving DL to non citizens even here illegally. Just another expense on us. All they have to do is stamp non citizen across their DL but they have to make it complicated and cost us more money.
What bothers me about building a very large world wide industry around a finite product isn’t sustainable. Hope they figure out something before peak rare earths.
MP’ PO at 40 on stock charts. I would watch if bears try to bring it back down tomorrow and not fill the gap then likely good to go. Selling off the top of 28 today to 26. Good for those just figuring it out or for those buying back later tomorrow maybe.
You know since there’s no stopping AI or technology rare earth stocks that have the product for years to come would be a good place to park some money for the future. If they paid dividends even better.
