Loading ...Before 1970 wives didn’t have to work. Because wages lagged inflation, for decades wives had to start working. Now even two earners are just getting by. I have an accountant relative. that told me $100k per year living paycheck to paycheck, just getting by. Middle class pay today? Is at least $200k. Even more if wife is home with kids, and you need to send them to college. Also because of lagging wages, a new car loan is 6 years. We were kids making $1.50 – $2/hr buying new muscle cars with 3 year loans. I think the minimum wage was equal to 9 loaves of bread per hour. Five gallons of gas per hour. Six months of pay was half a new car.
