the sub – dime pennystocks can sit there for years, then pop like a firecracker. caledonia mining comes to mind. i had a few thousand shares that i bought @ 1/32 (that’ll tell you how long ago this was). it just sat in my “sleeper file” until it decided to go on a run. it ran all the way to 0.39 (the market had gone decimal in the meantime).
i had bought it on a whim. my young daughter had noticed the name, and it reminded her that we had crossed to the isle of arran (clyde estuary – scotland) on a ferry named “Caledonia.” i noticed it when it started to run and quadrupled up. caledonia was good to us. ironically, caledonia mining shares in that daughter’s trust account played a part in sending her to law school a few years later. caledonia was a great trending stock. i played it up and down for several cycles – none as extreme as that first one from 1/32 to 0.39
