yes, that is a treefrog making coffee at the edge of the “goosenecks” – an entrenched meander of the san juan river near mexican hat, utah.  i’ve never been able to get a good pic of the goosenecks.  as a photographer i’m a dud.  here’s a gallery of goosenecks pics by folks who know how to hold a camera.

Brazil mining reform is raising costs for industry – Vale exec

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:11 on September 20, 2017

Mining reforms in Brazil are raising the cost of operating without generating increased interest in investing in the sector, an executive for world’s largest iron ore producer Vale said on Monday.

Brazil President Michel Temer issued decrees in July to boost mining royalties, create a new industry regulator and streamline regulations, arguing that efficient and transparent rules would bring in more investment.

That has not been the case, said Clovis Torres, an executive director for Vale who oversees legal issues and human resources.

“If it was already difficult to attract external investment for mining, the outlook became even more cloudy (after the reforms),” Torres told an industry conference.

The decrees must be confirmed by Congress by a November deadline to become permanent and could be subject to amendments.

Torres said miners were in part frustrated that the reforms were announced by decree, a move that limited public discussion.

Brazil has lost ground to Australia in iron ore production because it can take more than 10 years to get a license for a new mine, he said.

The country must cut red tape in order to attract junior mining companies that are key to developing the sector, Torres said.

“Vale has gone years without opening a new mine because we can’t get a license … how is a junior company going to wait for years?” he said.

Mining and Energy Minister Fernando Coelho Filho specifically mentioned the 10-year wait time when the reforms were launched and vowed that the new regulations would speed up the process.

“We Are In A State Of Siege”: Spanish Police Arrest Top Catalan Officials In Referendum Raids

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-20/we-are-state-siege-spanish-police-arrest-top-catalan-officials-referendum-raids

If Catalonia breaks free, then what is left of Spain is flat broke yesterday and it’s debts will never be paid…hence the hard line, which will go down like a cup of cold sick for all the very many, who have enough of the likes of Junker, lording it over us….

Canceling democracy, was always going to be the only way the EU could try and hold on…and here it comes.

Scum no doubt just sitting on pm’s as is the norm.

FWIW, I’d almost like to see gold flat to down prior to the Fed announcement, but I know nothing…

My guess is Janet Yellon will leave when her term is up, regardless if The Donald begs her to stay.
She will go down as the last Fed Chairman who was hawkish the whole way through.   Ben Bernanke set her up by starting the Taper his last months in office, which she carried through until ending the last Overt QE program, QE III.  She has since been singing interest rate hikes, as little and far and few as they’ve been.
Now she starts her grand exit from the Fed, the next Fed Chairman  being a financial crisis hatchet man and clean up crew.
She now does her Fed Hawk swan song, the selling off of the fed ballance sheet, before she rides into the sunset, completely un-blaimable for the greatest disaster in western financial history.   The Neo keynesian experiment.

Classic scum selling in dead time zone..before crimex opens for stealing……no-one else is that stupid/evil.

Treefrog – I have heard good things about your part of FL

Posted by Alex Valdor @ 4:50 on September 20, 2017

It has one of the lowest disaster ratings in the contiguous US according to something I saw recently. Maybe you posted it …???

I too , agree about snow , and NEVER wish to see -45 on the window thermometer again. Where I was born ( Kirkland Lake …yes THAT Kirkland Lake of gold fame ) and another area that I lived in for five years , hospitals fill up in Feb. and March with folks who get ‘cabin fever’ from being cooped up inside for months during very short daylight hours.

Also ‘ You don’t have to shovel rain !’

Yes I know the newt is a lizard but is also a type of mustard seed. Today people take these words literally. The Shakespeare they brought up use these terms like newt, bats, dogs tongues which aren’t really literal bats or dogs but Houndstongue Cynoglossum officinale. Hocus Pocus 🙂

I think treefrog may be jealous of all the things Oklahoma has offer. We used to brag that we had about every natural disaster available except tidal waves, earthquakes, and volcanoes. One down, two to go!

Not that it matters, but if you move to southeastern Oklahoma, you will be in the Ouachita mountains.(pronounced Wichita) Ozarks are in northeastern Oklahoma. If you want to join the last of the moonshiners or their children who raise pot, the Winding Stair mountains are waiting for you. Just don’t get off paved roads until after the first hard freeze!

don’t be convinced about oklanoma until you’ve looked at the big bend of florida.  the northern tier of counties between the appalachicola and the suwanee rivers.  rolling hills, cattle and woodland.  some corn-peanut-soybean farming.  we are in a blind corner of the gulf so that to get to us, hurricanes have to cross over land (and lose most of their strength.)

climate is much like you are used to in southeast texas.  warm summers, long springs and falls, mild winters.  fifty to sixty inches of rain annually, a dusting of snow every couple decades.  much of the area (outside leon county) is thinly populated and rural.  my county (jefferson) has no traffic lights!  the only intersection we have that would warrant one has a roundabout with a courthouse in the center.  the tourist and retiree infested areas are a couple hundred miles to the south and east.  no state income tax.

about twenty or thirty miles north of the coast there is the cody escarpment.  land south of that is low lying, flat, and sandy (paleo beach).  north of the escarpment, there is 100′ to 300′ elevation.

oklahoma has SNOW!  i spent five years as a small child in canada.  i have kept a low opinion of that white stuff ever since.

Re Story by Bill Holter Cryptocurrencies And Avoiding The “Poof Moment”…

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 21:53 on September 19, 2017
Hi Bill, remember me? Mr. Copper?
I just read your article and offering one of my thoughts re bitcoin etc. Below are two parts of your story that brought back old memories, and my suspicions, regarding “POOF” gone in a flash.
.
.
Your parts:
“The real dangers are several and basically involve a “poof” moment that does not exist with gold or silver. When I say “poof”, I am talking about “poof, it’s gone!”. Do not say this is impossible because it is not.
.
.
Suffice it to say, in the case of Bitcoin, no one even knows who its creator Satoshi is, how does anyone know he did not install a backdoor when he launched it? It does make sense that the programmer has a back door doesn’t it?”
.
.
Comment:
.
.
Briefly. Back in the later part of 1970s ’77 ’78 ’79 when Silver was climbing straight up, like in the $4 to $48 range. My friend and I had adds in the local papers, “Silver coins for sale” and “silver coins wanted”.
.
.
On the phone, many of the buyers were very open, for one example….”I have a deli, and cash, and I want to buy $100k worth of coins” Naturally we were just dabbling with buys and sales in the $100s to $2,000 range, not tens of thousands.
.
.
When Silver sucked in all that unreported under ground cash, and then crashed, it took all the away, from thousands of small businesses, their unreported income. My thoughts were back then, the Banks increase the money supply excessively, with loans etc, and then take in or evaporate excessive funds from the  tax evaders, and punish them. I assumed TPTB allowed that run up, and KNEW what would happen. Raised rates and killed all the “private” unreported inflation hedges.
.
.
So this Bitcoin thing may have the same purpose, and the banks, CIA or gov’t itself may have been the actual creator on Bitcoin. They will collapse the thing when they feel the time is RIPE.

Hum Witchful thinking

Putin Orders End To US Dollar Trade At Russian Seaports

Whether in response to rising scorching tensions with the US, or simply to provide support for the ruble, on Tuesday Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to approve legislation making the ruble the main currency of exchange at all Russian seaports by next year, the Kremlin website reported.

re Government is all about CONTROL ! If You LET them.

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 13:54 on September 19, 2017

After the 2008 meltdown it became obvious that the “gov’t” that screwed the USA decided to help restore the US economy, for their own good. Its very important for big global corporations and foreign nations, to have an economically strong American consumer and tax payers.

So maybe its get even time. Don’t do what they want us to do. Don’t raise the debt limit, and don’t buy and hire American.
