I don’t know but we had a nice reversal in the USD so it’s good to see pm’s responding positively. Would love to see the new floor at $1300.

That block chain news is interesting. I trust it even less if the banks are involved.

Something’s coming….only a couple more months….or less… 🙂

Six big banks join blockchain digital cash settlement project

Posted by ipso facto @ 11:13 on August 31, 2017

ZURICH (Reuters) – Six new banks have joined a UBS-led (UBSG.S) effort to create a digital cash system that would allow financial markets to make payments and settle transactions quickly via blockchain technology.

The group aims to launch the system late next year.

Barclays (BARC.L), Credit Suisse (CSGN.S), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CM.TO), HSBC (HSBA.L), MUFG (8306.T) and State Street (STT.N) have joined the group developing the “utility settlement coin” (USC), a digital cash equivalent of each of the major currencies backed by central banks, UBS said on Thursday.

The group is in discussions with central banks and regulators and is aiming for a “limited ’go live’” in the latter part of 2018, UBS’s head of strategic investment and fintech innovation told the Financial Times.

Romania wants former mining city of Rosia Montana to be pulled from UNESCO list

Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose plans to ask UNESCO to revoke the status of World Heritage site for the former mining town of Rosia Montana, as the nomination means important gold reserves can no longer be exploited.

The application, submitted to UNESCO by the former government, was the last nail in the coffin for Canadian Gabriel Resources’ (TSX:GBU) namesake project, which faced relentless local opposition and several attempts to block the proposed mine by the government.

In 2014, parliament yielded to pressure from environmentalists, worried about the potential use of cyanide to mine about 314 tonnes of gold and 1,500 tonnes of silver, and halted the project.

By then, the Toronto-based miner filed had spent 15 years and about and $700 million trying to build its $2bn Rosia Montana mine, so it filed a request for international arbitration. The idea was to seek compensation from Bucharest for the many delays to the company’s flagship project.

Currently, Gabriel is requesting Romania to pay $4.4 billion in damages for losses related to its long-stalled project.

This strength is unexpected

Early strength in the USD has faded pretty quickly. Shares – especially the juniors are pretty strong.

Hopefully it holds up. Dreaded jobs report tomorrow.

California initiative would legalize psychedelic mushrooms

California would become the first state in the nation to legalize psychedelic mushrooms if a long-shot ballot initiative passes muster with voters next year.

The measure is backed by a legalization activist who says he kicked his heroin habit with the help of a mushroom trip in Death Valley. It would exempt Californians over the age of 21 from a state law that criminalizes mushrooms containing psilocybin, the compound that gives some mushrooms psychedelic properties.

“There is a cultural fascination with mushrooms that goes really deep,” said Kevin Saunders, the activist behind the initiative. “The soccer moms are all pretty much, for lack of a better term, high now, and some of them are taking mushrooms.”

I guess $1.1 Billion doesn’t have the effect it used to

Posted by Buygold @ 7:57 on August 31, 2017

Nonetheless, I’m not sure the long-awaited move above $1300 will lead anywhere but back below $1300. I guess at least with the USD rally of the last couple days we haven’t been smashed too hard.

Gold Flash-Crashes Below $1300

After the shenanigans in US mega-tech stocks over the last two days and the seemingly well orchestrated melt-up to pre-J-Hole levels in the dollar, why should anyone be surprised that ‘someone’ decided to try to sell $1.1 billion notional into the Asian open…

If it helps the aches and pains of all that rowing if they are and lifting for long hours what the heck. Texans should keep a water filter handy in a bug out bag. There’s a lot of people wanting to donate food including for dogs, cats, cloths, and furniture. They need to post a place. They can’t take the furniture yet but I bet some can use some cloths and shoes, food and pet food.

Texas is a working town not a give me corrupt to the max sanctuary town like Chicago has turned into unfortunately. I feel bad for the working class. I have second cousins there or had. This storm as devastating as it is as 1000s cant go home will bring 1000s of jobs. They’re already advertising now. They’ll need to rebuild multi cities. I hope they hire Americans first with priorities to people who lost their jobs by the flood. In the meantime hope HUD will give out housing voyagers to all those who lost their residences for at least a year.

oxford letter

Posted by treefrog @ 17:31 on August 30, 2017

awesome letter, but it was written by a breibart staffer, and originally presented with a preface:

“this is how oxford should answer the ‘rhodes must fall’ protesters.”

it’s still a great letter, and full of truth, but no official of oxford, or oriel college has the cojones to write it.

here’s oriel college’s official statement.  more restrained and professional, but the statue stays.

Oxford, the thing is I don’t think the snowflakes have reading comprehension good enough to read it and would be too long for them. Too many words, that is if they can read.

Indonesia cheers Freeport ‘win’ as Grasberg valuation fight looms

JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia’s government left no doubts as to who it believes got the better deal in its landmark agreement with Freeport McMoRan Inc (FCX.N) on the future of the Grasberg copper mine.

After Freeport agreed to divest a 51 percent stake in Grasberg, the world’s second-biggest copper mine, Indonesia’s Energy and Finance Ministries posted on social media #FreeportTaatIndonesiaBerdaulat, or “Freeport is obedient, Indonesia is a sovereign state”.

The bombastic statement illustrates Indonesia’s view that the dispute with Freeport over the mine was all about asserting the country’s rights to its mineral resources. While Indonesia can point to a victory that appeals to nationalist sentiment, pinning down the details on the divestment indicates a further fight with Freeport.

I hear analysts saying gold may be up a few hundred dollars by the end of 2018. Bitcoin is already up $214 this morning.
