ipso facto @ 9:35….and Farmboy

Posted by silverngold @ 11:05 on July 20, 2016

Hope I didn’t misrepresent myself. I meant to say I’ve DONE almost all those things and LIVED them in the past in real life. As a child I had the good luck to live several years in a beautiful rural campground at Lake Tahoe where my dad was a park ranger…….and so I learned to love and appreciate nature and all that goes with it…….and I also had the bad luck to live some of my teenage years in Los Angeles…..so I was able to compare the two lifestyles and make an informed decision where and how I wanted to live my life and raise my children.

Now we still live the rural lifestyle but on the grid, and yes to satellite internet, and if someone pulls the plug on power I am confident we will be able to get by just fine  as I have a backup system in place.

But, raising kids in an environment where parenting has been taken away from the parent has been a challenge, especially since peer pressure and the educational system has such a strong influence, so it has been an uphill battle all the way. The best I could do was to do as was done for me….and that is to expose them to the world I grew up in and also the world in which they must live and in which they must compete. Also instill in them the confidence to always do what they believe is right, and try to do it with kindness and consideration for others, and in good moral conscience.

As Farmboy says, it’s not been an easy row to hoe. LOL!!!

‘Crexit’ warning: Corporate debt seen ballooning to $75 trillion

Posted by Farmboy @ 11:00 on July 20, 2016

“Close to half of companies outside the financial sector are considered “highly leveraged,” which is the lowest category for risk, and up to 5 percent of that group has negative earnings or cash flows. There already have been 100 debt defaults in 2016, the most since the financial crisis for the period.”

Maddog @ 10:09 The Story Behind The USS Goldbug

Posted by Farmboy @ 10:48 on July 20, 2016

I know the story behind that wreck. There once was a famed skipper who piloted his ship with great skill through the rough seas of the markets. His name becoming synonymous with another Goldbug, King Midas, also of international fame.

Well, one afternoon after mess, Cpt Wanka asked one of his crew members to dump the slop bucket of remains overboard after cleaning up the galley. As it so happened Seaman Buygold, being the ultimate slacker aboard the ship, spotted a hatch in the very bottom of the hull.  Rather than lift the heavy bucket up and over the railing, he decided a quicker, and easier route, would be to quickly open the hatch, toss in the contents of the slop bucket and slam it shut.

The rest is history as your picture depicts. It was a sad day for the Goldbug Navy as the Captain was so rudely awakened from his afternoon nap by cold water rushing into his quarters. So quickly did it happen that even the trusty cat on watch had no time for a warning.

You might ask, “What happened to Seaman Buygold”? Well, since there was no plank left from which to march BG, he was forever after incarcerated in the House of Wanka as an indentured servant. Never to be allowed near any vessel, at any time, in fact he was denied to get within a 100 yards of the ocean again. Instead, to this very day Seaman Buygold spends his days and nights doing yardwork and sleeping in the toolshed on shovel and rake.

That is the story I have been told. I will leave it up to others to decide upon the ‘moral’ of the story. (LOL)

The millennials are going to need to learn practical skills very quickly in the future. Just knowing how to doodle on a puter won’t be putting food on the table for most of them.

It’s a little scary that many of them have been tainted, twisted by the media to think they “deserve” to be taken care of, they’re entitled. There seems to be a collectivist theme going on and many of them consider themselves socialist … with no idea how that dead-end evolves. Oh well taking from someone else is so much easier than working …

I see a teenager cutting the grass or raking the leaves, but it is such a rare occasion where I now live that I actually slow down and say a quick prayer for the parents who are doing such a good job raising the next generation.

Interesting pondering over that list of 40 things. Was a great reminder of how lucky I was to have grown up experiencing real life. Started thinking of a lot of other things this next generation needs to attend to, to learn.

But all those things are pretty useless really, in the long run, if they dont have the values, morals, the ‘heart’ to put all those things to good use, not only in their own lives, but in helping others. That would be the biggest failure in my view of what we are not teaching the young ones. I think so many today get their sense of value, even purpose in life, mostly from watching television. And that is a poor substitute for the values most of us were taught growing up.

Whether hard times, or good times, await this next generation, they are going to have a rough row to hoe without that ‘inner compass’.

I’m sure that being your daughter she did just fine in the Boy Scouts. Probably had more outdoor skills than most of the boys.

I’m wondering if your posting problems have something to do with you being out in the boonies. You say you are setting up hydro power … are you off the grid? Satellite internet?

Cheers

Maddog, If I Had To Make a Choice, I Would Go With Being Happy

Posted by Farmboy @ 9:23 on July 20, 2016

Sometimes I wish I had more money. But that thought does not linger in my mind for any length of time, as I am old enough, and just wise enough, to understand there is something of much greater value and service to me. Kinda hard to beat having true friends and learning to enjoy the things I do have. Not much envious of the very rich. But I have to admit I am a little envious of the setup at Silverngold’s place. 🙂

live well

I never had it when I logged in from my friend’s Wifi thru Time Warner.  But when I use the TOR network now it makes me do the addition problem to prove I’m not a robot.  Fortunately the maximum is 9+9 so I won’t run out of fingers and toes to count ’em up!  I have to log on every time I wish to post.  I don’t stay logged on, and my browser does not save ‘cookies’ so I know the ‘remember me’ stuff on sites does not work, either.   The price of a little privacy.
