Like a ghost in the night, the Tennessee Pass line has
been ‘mothballed’ for 18 years now. Union Pacific still owns
the line, but the 3% mountain grades require too much motive
power and fuel. There are better lines over the Rocky Mountains
that the railroad uses for better economy.
