Hey Maya

So sad and terrifying what’s happened there. You’re right, when I think of Hawaii, I think lush, tropical vegetation.
The speed with which it happened was stunning.

I cried

Posted by Maya @ 4:46 on August 11, 2023

I finally saw video from Lahaina tonight. I choked. I cried. News crew went in with the Guard delivering supplies to whomever they find. Many gathered at beach parks with water & showers. Driving thru whole subdivisions of nothing but burned hulks of vehicles, twisted metal fencing, and a few concrete walls. It looked like a nuclear bomb toasted everything. Absolutely shocking.

Official death toll now is 52. National Guard commander on TV got choked up when he said it could rise over 1,000. They have over 1,000 people officially reported ‘missing’ by friends and relatives. The guard is going thru burned structures and finding bodies. No one is allowed into the area until the job is complete.

RIP Lahaina, Maui

Posted by Maya @ 3:24 on August 11, 2023

Conspiracy nuts aside, this was an unprecedented, but natural disaster.  Contrary to some ignorant beliefs, not ALL of Hawaii is ‘moist tropical’.  The leeward sides of the mountains are dry & sunny, and preferred areas for tourists.  Lahaina is a dry area.  Grass fires are not uncommon, but are normally quickly addressed.

This week hurricane DORA passed 500 miles south of the islands.  Now with High pressure to the north, we had pressure gradient winds consistently above 50 mph in open areas, and especially down leeward slopes.   It was impossible to fight a small brush fire that quickly blew down into Lahaina town.  The town is old, wooden structures, some of which date back to the whaling port days of the 1800s.  Lahaina town burned to the ground in the high winds.  In addition about a thousand homes were lost also.  People were jumping into the ocean to avoid the flames, and the Coast Guard was patrolling the shorline and rescued a dozen people from the ocean near shore.

I’ve been on the road today and don’t have the latest update, but as of yesterday this is what I know.  Red cross is managing about 2,000 people in shelters on Maui.  Yesterday there were around 2,000 more amassed at the airport, waiting to get out.  Hawaiian Airlines is doing their best to get people out of Maui to Honolulu.  No tourists allowed incoming to Maui, only local residents and supplies.   Honolulu has prepared the convention center to shelter up to 4,000 people temporarily with bus service to/from the airport.  Stories of chaotic evacuation are all over the news.  Last night the death toll stood at 36.  I’m sure it is higher today.

Focus I heard while shopping today is now looking at emergency support for thousands of refugees left homeless on Maui.  Electricity is out on that side of the island, and cell service is rare and intermittent.  Many roads remain blocked yet.  Damage early estimates are in the tens of Billion$ to the economy.  It will be years before Maui island recovers from this.

A little tongue and cheek (whatever that means – chuckle)

The bottom is coming. The last time the Dow went up 13 days in a row was 1987.

So we could have a lot of fun through October, but PMs are going to start rolling soon enough.

If you buy around month’s end here and close your eyes for six months or so, I think you would be pleasantly surprised no matter what happens between.

Cheers

PS So did you get to pinch any nurses recently?

Put an end to it

I must have missed your July post.

People seem to have short memories.  Nothing has changed from my early July opinion on the Gold bottom track. That A wave bottom was perceived as the Int. bottom .  June 29th bottom predictions wereWRONG! Now Int. low C wave bottom is finally in clear sight. Patience.

what will they try to do?

Limit driving? Limit the hours of electrical usage? Limit production at food and other plants? Let us buy gas on every third day to repeat Carter’s blunder in 79′?

This country will explode. I hope it does. We need to isolate D.C. – have truckers block all roads in and out, quit paying taxes. Starve them out. No reason to go into their den and get arrested, refuse to let them out their cesspool. All of them are nuts. Republicans too for the most part.

As for the Adens, they haven’t exactly been great at forecasting gold prices. I don’t know how they do with the SM, maybe they’re better at that.

I suspect tomorrow is make or break for pm’s, we’re either going rally hard or fall through the floor as usual. $1850? The it’ll be $1780 then some other support that doesn’t hold. What happened to $1930?

Palladium was up 4.5% or $54 today. We’re in a sector of rainbows and unicorns. Useless.

Tis the season

“dempanic” = pandemic (with mandated lockdowns and other insanities) viewed through a libertarian lens.

demos – (greek) the people.

panic – (also greek) unreasoning fear.

dempanic – a campaign to instill unreasoning fear in the people.

I have a Ford hot water heater from 1975 48 years old still working. These days they only last about 10 years. I recently threw out a US made Carrier air conditioner I bought in 1974. They pretty much made things cheaper as the people gradually got poorer, from sharing our jobs to help developing nations or emerging economies, at USA expense, in my view.

In my area they are trying to pass laws to allow more apartments in houses garages sheds etc to increase supply of apartments and get rents lower. They NEVER suggest lower (than what’s needed) wages are the root problem. Minimum wages are way too low, and that holds ALL nonunion wages lower.

The Gov’t needs to support or represent the nonunion workers. I know the anti higher wage argument. “Oh geez a McDonalds burger will cost $12 dollars.” But the more well-off buyers would easily pay it. Those burgers were .15 cents now $2.50, or 17 times more. They SHOULD be 20 X more. The old $1.75 min wage times 20 is $35/hr, what it SHOULD be today.

Hello MR Copper lol

Posted by goldielocks @ 12:50 on August 10, 2023

We made a lot of things back then and still should. I’m not a Martin Armstrong but from what little I remember on the subject was after the war the war torn country’s in particular was not only starving and needed our food but also were on the buying end of that they couldn’t afford. They had to be able to produce too. I could be wrong but I think that’s where it started to plain out sourcing with immigration from everywhere and got out of hand especially with corrupt politicians profiting. Some of which are still around.

The rising interest rate funds is probably done or the biggest gains anyways.

@goldilocks re your “the streets are littered with homeless, drugs, illegals, and crime. “

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 12:26 on August 10, 2023

If Americans produced ONLY the cars we use, you would not have the above signs of loss of work to do. Add the TV sets and consumer electronics? Same thing. If everything we BUY was made in the USA there would be prosperity like 1945 to 1975.

They might be right, it’s looking that way. Besides what else can the gov to take credit for that’s not theirs while trying to start WW111, the streets are littered with homeless, drugs, illegals, and crime.  Despite all the interest hikes inflation, corruption  so they come up with Bidennomics.
They can spend 60K of tax payers money on free sex change but make a gold star family pay 60 thousand to bring their daughters remains home from the Afghanistan disaster and the malicious refusal to a American solder who saw the suicide bomber and had him in his sights and could of stopped him. Maybe Biden should mention that or how much he sent to Ukraine.
Maybe he should mention how well people are holding up in this heat wave without fossil fuel.
