- Rough Handling and Slaughter: When hens are deemed “spent” (no longer profitable for egg production, usually around 2 years old), they are roughly grabbed by workers and packed into crates for transport to slaughter. Due to their brittle bones, many sustain broken wings and legs during this process. Chickens are not protected by the U.S. Humane Slaughter Act, and many are still conscious when their throats are cut or when they are immersed in scalding-hot water for feather removal.

Not same kinda cages. There are individual cages they can’t even walk no room suck there forced to lay eggs till death. One of my grandfather’s per a new marriage raised them and other animals. He had a very high fence around them and a ramp to a very large chicken house the size of a small house with their own hay beds they’d walk in before nightfall instead safe and warm. No grass in their yard they ate it. Long grass not good for them can get caught up in their throat then can’t swallow and die. Sometime vegetable oil and massage can bring it down.
