Gotta give it to the metals so far

They haven’t been able to waterfall them. Resilient if nothing else.

I suppose we’ll see when Warsh opens his yap.

Dollar starting to jump

Posted by Buygold @ 14:18 on September 16, 2026

can’t see what bonds are doing in real time, but the dollar is taking its pound of flesh out of the metals now.

Pretty much as expected, the metals come down to meet the shares in the pit.

QQQ still acting like a champ though.

Someone sure doesn’t want silver to take off….

They’re a sellin’

Posted by Buygold @ 14:02 on September 16, 2026

Same as it always is.

It’s volatile though, some buying coming back in.

Could we possibly hold our own?

Hmmm

Shares inching up into the announcement.

maddog – my gut says you maybe right

Posted by Buygold @ 13:36 on September 16, 2026

I think everyone is expecting a hike, so maybe the rates got ahead of themselves, and the reaction might surprise and see the dollar take a hit. OTOH, rates are down 5 bips or so already, so how much more would they fall? Why is the dollar higher right now? It’s not up much but shouldn’t be up at all with the way the bonds are trading.

These are really tough days to do anything. At least 90% of the time pm’s take a hit. Pretty rare occasion when we see strength after a meeting. We’ve taken a hit after every meeting since March I believe. Maybe we’re due for a decent reaction this time around.

I have a tough time relying on the charts as buy points, the only thing that seems clear to me today is that either the shares are going to rally up to meet the metals like they should be doing now, or the metals are going to take a tumble to meet the shares.

One thing is sure, someone already knows, and it’s not me.

Re Getting Inflation Down

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 12:39 on September 16, 2026

They would have to get artificial “wages” or profits down. Stocks and Real Estate should be part of the money supply, as per James Dines.

Millions of people have TONS of found money playing stocks and real estate. They don’t even have to work, because they have plenty of found money to spend and drive prices higher. We could even add Gold investments to the money supply.

Unfortunately, the young people and non union working people are all not keeping up with inflation because of such a low minimum wage with should be $55/hr in constant value dollars from 1970. $55 times 40 hrs is $2200/week which is what you need for a one bedroom apartment.

So…The only way to get inflation down, is like the Fediots did the last time around 1980. By raising rates so high, its kills the stock and real estate markets. I doubt they will do that unless thats what they want, a deflation.

Everytime the shares open up, they get sold off along with the metals….I can only think the Algo’s see an up open as another chance to short …Lord alone knows the last time we have seen an up open carry on higher….I can’t recall one…..we have yet to leave the base in the shares/Au spread behind…that is what I think they are keying off…that said I see bull flags all over the place in Pm’s, Shares and spread…..today maybe the catalyst…..

Now it’s playing with emotion.or fear due to inflation but it’s from war and oil. They are showing a pattern as we get to the end of the year, if he didn’t raise it last time he will this time and if he doesn’t this time he will next time.

Question is will raising rates bring the cost of oil  down thus inflation down? Can’t see how other than gradual job loss that will then not recover easily because of it and they won’t be driving but not a big impact on global demand.

when is fedspeak?

Posted by treefrog @ 12:09 on September 16, 2026

is there a definite time it is expected?

Shares look pretty crappy compared to the metals so far.

Posted by ipso facto @ 12:07 on September 16, 2026

Cringing at the prospect of the Fed knockout punch? A quarter inch raise might result with a knee jerk type reaction down and then going higher. All speculation.

Always have to peruse the NYT with a skeptical eye!

Saying that Iran has fractured and divided leadership doesn’t seem particularly partisan. Seems I’ve read it elsewhere as well.

Today’s theme song…Please don’t pop it! It’s S&G!

Metals look good

Posted by Buygold @ 11:56 on September 16, 2026

Hard to understand why the shares are underperforming, unless the insiders already know that the metals are going to get hammered back down after the meeting concludes.

Sort of begs the question though, why are the metals up at all?

Re hardliners and attacks in Iran

If it’s the New York slimes, then I think we can safely say, this is all lies being put out by the Iranians, knowing full well the Slimes will print it as gospel……Hanson is saying they are desperate to get the Dems to win the Mid Terms and the MSM is in cahoots……Which should send the sisterhood ape…..but TDS trumps all logic.

Not a surprise

BIG | 🇮🇷🇺🇸‼️‼️ Iranian hard-liners secretly sabotaged the fragile peace arrangement with the United States by ordering attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz without the knowledge of President Masoud Pezeshkian or much of Iran’s senior leadership, The New York Times reports.

According to Iranian officials cited by the NYT, the faction behind the July 7 attacks was linked to Hossein Taeb, the influential cleric and former intelligence chief who had opposed the agreement from the beginning. Three commercial vessels were attacked in the strait, prompting Washington to resume major strikes against Iran and intensifying an internal struggle over the country’s direction.

The revelation exposes how deeply divided Iran’s leadership has become over whether to seek an exit from the war or raise the costs for Washington through further escalation. By September, hard-line military figures had reportedly strengthened their position and were advocating increased pressure on U.S. forces and regional energy infrastructure rather than a return to negotiations. The July episode suggests that Tehran’s internal power struggle is no longer merely political, with competing factions capable of influencing decisions that can rapidly alter the course of the wider conflict.

BREAKING: In a major shift, the European Union has officially proposed making Canada the bloc’s first-ever “associate member.”

Details include:

1. European Commission President von der Leyen said Europe needs to “tighten its cooperation with like-minded democracies”

2. von der Leyen also says this would retain the continent’s sovereignty and tackle threats from “an openly hostile world”

3. The move comes just days after President Trump imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods

4. Canada’s Prime Minister Carney has confirmed that there are also discussions on certain types of mutual visa-free travel and work arrangements

The trade war and AI are redefining global power dynamics.

Let’s hope that’s the case and we’re straight up from here, that’s the best thing that could happen for sure.
Shares look decent pre market.

edit: Shares did look decent premarket, but not so much now, especially the silver shares. Hopefully things will recover some. 10 yr. is down 4 bips, that should help. I suppose nothing really matters until after the announcement.

I like your optimism on gold but today of all days there are probably a lot of short term  traders lined up on both sides but maybe many shorts. . Shorts and longs. With the high rate of expectation the Fed will raise rates and if they don’t well likely see shorts covering and volatility  well anyways would see swings in price. Also they may claim the expectation of rate hikes is priced in but did they price in any talk about one of future rate hikes? Either way can’t go down forever. Well it could but not likely.
