goldielocks @ 13:10 re Inferior 1957 Chevy and Perfect Imported Cars

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 13:39 on October 30, 2019

The ’57 Chevy is like a tank. Heavy guage high quality steel. Odss favor you bought the Chevy USED, and the clock was turned back a few times between owners, and you got it with 250,000 miles on it. When it showed 50,000, and naturally the suspension was shot, and only God knows what was done to the car.

My friends salesman father traded in a 1960 Olds with 80,000 on in. One night four of us cruising on the main drag spotted the car in the front row. We had lots of memories with that car. We used to borrow it. So we stopped to look at it. salesman comes out thinking we are interested.

He opens the door, one of the guys gets in and sees only 3 miles on the odometer, and comments to the salesman, what the hell is this??? This car has 80,000k miles on it?? Salesman says they rebuilt the whole car. Yeah right. 🙂 🙂

All the Americans that I know that complained about US cars, NEVER bought a new one themselves. So they had to be high mileage cars and needed complains. Then they buy a NEW import with zero miles and brag how happy they are.

I myself DETEST imported cars. I don’t care how great they are. Too much of a negative trade off for our country. The proof is all around us. If they are twice as good, they should cost TWICE as much. If they DON’T?? Then its not fair and they are subsidized in various ways. Currency and foreign car maker has cheaper labor and no medical insurance costs for workers.

Look, nothing matters anymore. Its too late. Bon apatite everybody load up on more imports. The damage has been done. We can’t fall off the floor. 🙂 I may even buy one some day. 🙂

Sorry–stocks just can’t. go. down for longer than. 15 minutes=This is all about the Federal Reserve and hopes that…Powell & Co will print as much liquidity as needed to keep the rally and economic expansion alive.”

She is skeptical that the Fed can stave off a recession — even if it continues to cut rates. That’s because of growing signs of weakness in the services sector that powers the US economy.
Which is why DiMartino Booth believes the Fed will pump as much liquidity into the markets as it can to keep the economy and stock market humming along.
“The markets are not happy, they’re euphoric. Despite earnings being on a decline, that is the longest on the postwar era– markets are trading at all time highs,” DiMartino Booth said. “This is all about the Federal Reserve and hopes that…Powell & Co will print as much liquidity as needed to keep the rally and economic expansion alive.”

One more rate cut and then hit the pause button?

But investors should be wary of the stock market’s recent rally, because individual companies’ fundamentals no longer justify their current prices, DiMartino Booth said. Stocks are up mainly on hopes of more help from the Fed,
With sky-high valuations and the Fed unlikely to be able to stave off a recession, DiMartino Booth is not sure the Fed should be lowering rates much further at this point.

One of my first cars a 57 Chevy everyone was trying to buy from me those American cars didn’t seem to handle as well as the foreign cars either. The Chevy sterling would shake if I went past 50 mph on a turn. I suppose your not supposed to be going that fast but those were the times.
In LA I was following a big truck and the ass turned at the last minute because a car broke down on the fwy at night not giving me much time to react when he pulled out at the last second and there it was. To make it worse not only had to swerve around the car but two people a man and woman who stepped in the next lane over because that truck got so close so had to jump two lanes in a second or hit them. I had bought a German car and handled well next to the cement on the side of the FWy off the lane they were in. That truck took off going a 90 mph.
Where’s a cop when you need them.
If I was still in the Chevy I don’t think it would of handled that well although they have improved since then.

I had a Ford Econo for camping and it didn’t have stabilizers and in wind they were hard to manage on the Fwy plus when passing big trucks it would pull it toward the truck. Maybe I should of drive close behind them and saved gas just let it pull me lol
Yeah I do agree about the sheet metal and now fiber glass.

UBS Warns: “If History Were A Perfect Guide…Stocks Would Be In A World of trouble Here”

Posted by Richard640 @ 13:03 on October 30, 2019
Bloomberg data shows 3Q19 S&P 500 company profits will likely expand by 1% to zero, which is significantly below the 3.3% forecast from last month. Estimates for 4Q19 are moving lower, could be below zero by year-end.
Trahan also suggests the Fed might be less inclined to prop up the stock market as it slams interest rates lower to act as a countercyclical buffer against a faltering economy. He warned that interest rates moving lower would also mean more depressed equity prices. He ended the piece by saying the upcoming earnings contraction is likely to kick off the next bear market.

goldielocks @ 21:20 re Gasoline Miser Cars and Gas Prices Adjusted for inflation

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 12:21 on October 30, 2019

Hi, imo the inflation adjusted gasoline prices are way off. Everything s/b a factor of 15-20 from 1970. 1970 .36 cents/b today $5.40/gal. at least. Gas today at $2.50 divide by 15 put gas at .16 cents compared to .36 in 1970. Gasoline is half price today than 1970. In my opinion of course.

The gas miser people of decades ago was kind of a hobby thing in the 1960s. We had gas miser cars back then. My friends mother bought a new 1960 Ford Falcon. Tiny 6 cyl motor and a stick shift. It was GREAT on gas. We used to use it all the time at night and drive around with learner permits while his mom was sleeping.

I had other friends one with a Chevy Corvair, (allegedly unsafe at any speed) and friend with Ford Pinto, (allegedly will explode violently if read ended) early American gas miser cars. My friend with a 1965 Corvette V/8 motor used to get 20 mpg highway between Fla and NY.

I myself did not want to save save money of gas figuring I was lowering my living standard. In other words, if I can afford 12 miles per gallon at 18 year sold, I should STILL be able to afford 12 MPG at 28 years old. You have to get higher income to over ride higher costs, NOT use less and lower your personal standard.

The fake media bad mouthed, impropaganga on USA cars. Chevy P/U truck was advertised and artificially staged as blowing up with a broad side hit. Small imported unibody cars today when rear ended collapses the sheet metal and you can’t open the doors. Brother friend in a Toyota Corolla was rear ended and hit the car in front. He could not get out and had to be cut out. Sometimes they go on fire and people die inside.

Quote: Every time you try to save, you lose. Mr Copper circa 1967. The USA has lost. 🙂

PS Gasoline went up after 1970 because Dollar was de-pegged from Gold. Nobody including the Arabs, knew what the dollar was”worth” anymore so it dropped, inverted prices and rates higher 1970 to 1980. This is all simple crap. Forget embargo BS.

Almaden – AAU – Getting crushed on this news. Thank God I don’t own it anymore.

Almaden Minerals Ltd. (“Almaden” or the “Company”; TSX: AMM; NYSE American: AAU) was today notified by SEMARNAT, Mexico’s environmental authority, that the permitting process for the Ixtaca project has been suspended pending resolution of the mineral title lawsuit reported by the Company on September 10 and April 15, 2019 (the “Lawsuit”).

Under the Lawsuit, certain organisations have supported legal challenges against the Government of Mexico and the Mexican mineral title regime using the Company’s mineral claims as a basis for their challenges. The Lawsuit contends that the issuance of Almaden’s original mineral titles violated human rights and did not respect Mexico’s commitment to indigenous consultation under United Nations Instrument ILO 169.

Turkey ‘Double Whammy’: US House Recognizes Armenian Genocide, Approves Sanctions Over Syria Incursion

Late in the day Tuesday the US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of adopting a historic resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. This, it should be noted, on the 96th anniversary of the founding of Turkey as a republic no less.

And in another major simultaneous “gift” to Turkey’s Erdogan — what headlines are already calling a “double whammy” — the House also voted overwhelmingly to approve a biting sanctions bill that if signed into law would crush Turkey’s economy and target Erdogan’s financial assets personally over his controversial military incursion into northern Syria.

Didn’t have time to mention about foreign cars. The foreign starting with Japanese making affordable cars was economically awake during that time while American manufactures were still stuck on their large models and muscle cars but they were gas guzzlers.
40 years ago there was a correlation between sharp increases in gas prices and gas economic cars.
You could buy a toyota or VW and get about twice the miles in a full tank. It wasn’t just themselves it was survival. Two things could of happened. American cars could of made theirs more gas efficient and Gov could of did something about the rising gas prices. Would of could of should of. Between 1970 and 1980 the price of gas almost tripled in price and with it the demand for gas efficient cars. It probably still wouldn’t of stoped them from outsourcing the work.

Being dry, hilly, mountainy, and the ocean is what people like here. They can go to either after a short drive depending. Earthquakes that do a lot of damage don’t happen that often compared to flooding, bad humidity, hurricanes and blizzards. Some areas just too hot even with low humidity in summer. Fires are anywhere especially with trees and if it gets windy.
Guess people just get used to where they’re at. I knew Jim Dougherty, he was Marylin Monroe’s first husband who was a cop and sharpshooter then. I got a few ducks from him and his nephew during hunting season. By then he remarried to a women who spoke French I remember because I could speak French then and talk to her. He decided to move there to Maine but wound up going back to Calif. I knew someone else who bought land there and just left it and just came back.
It’s just a shame what the politicians and non elected behind it are doing to these states.
I heard in Chili they rioted and got some of the cost of living back down. Guess sadly that’s what it takes these days, civil unrest.

Roger that many good observations. I myself would NOT live in Ca. for a free $600k house. Fires, earth quakes, too dense population in spots, too dry, too hilly etc etc. and quacks running the state. Fla either. Way too hot and humid. I like Maine, New Hampshire, etc.

All the problems and troubles you mentioned are a product or side effect of globalization. Global welfare. Global affirmative action to equalize countries at USA expense. And anybody that purchased an imported consumer product, when they had a US choice, contributed to the decline.

United we stand, divided we fell. Innocent people, just concerned about them selves. Buying high quality cheaper. We didn’t all stick together and boycott imported people and products. We had the wrong leadership. We had THEIR leadership. It all doesn’t matter anymore. Forty years ago was the time to complain. Nature is taking its course now.
