This is a mixed read. While CNN’s Fear and Greed is at caution levels, AAII Sentiment shows plenty of room to run. We are there on F&G, however, being more conservative means “hold what you have” and potentially harvest some positions (or portions of positions) with big gains. Add selectively only in names of laggard sectors that can play catch-up into year end like Biotech (which has already had a nice move off the lows), and the Exploration and Production sub-sector that is trying to catch a bid. We wrote about the potential opportunity in both groups in recent weeks (biotech has already had a nice move, the E&P sector (XOP) is up very modestly, but could change overnight with a Phase 1 deal signature):

***************************************
Well now we are here, and everyone who is still underweight equities will have to chase. The likely near term move is a mini-shakeout to rattle the new money from the last week or so that is “late to the party.” Once the weak hands are back out it is a reasonable probability that we can melt-up higher into year-end. That said, when everyone’s waiting for a pullback to buy, you might not get it…
****************************************
The National Association of Active Investment Managers (NAAIM) Equity Exposure Index (Video Explanation Here) reading this week confirmed that active managers are still underweight equities (relative to bonds and cash) at just 65%. They were not positioned properly for this breakout to new highs (as we noted from the BaML Global Fund Manager Survey several weeks ago).

If this is all they have, then why bother.

Tomorrow will be really telling IMHO

If we can actually rally or be flat on a jobs report day, I will probably crap my jeans.

If not, everything will be “as expected” and I’ll be glad I didn’t try to add anything today.

Good day though – don’t get it, but I’ll take it!

There’s no doubt that the Rig exists….so the longer this fight between the Donald and the Swamp

Not too good a quarterly for MUX this time around. But I’m sticking. I think they do better as time goes by.

Hey Ipso

Posted by Buygold @ 14:48 on October 31, 2019

Yes. In SAND’s case it appears to be. I’d like to see some reward in MUX at some point.

If we’re able to hold gains in the metals and shares today and then again through the jobs report tomorrow, I’d think that was a miracle.

Don’t think the SM likes the hawkish rate cut or the Trump impeachment.

whatever it was, it was good.  i always try to sample the local treats.  another memory of that trip was when we camped on a bluff in nova scotia, above the atlantic.  a really international moment, an american family camping in a sioux tipi (poles carried on a jap pickup), grilling lobsters over a fire, and eating them with a cheese sauce from quebec (something like melted brie) and corn on the cob roasted in the coals.

restaurants are o.k. but i can usually do better.

Some of my cousins live a mile from the Ontario/Quebec border – in fact they picked up their mail in Quebec , until the Post Office decided that if you lived in Ontario , your mail address had to be in Ontario . The village in Quebec had a boulangerie that made bread that was so delicious I would buy a half dozen loaves before returning home ( over a hundred miles away ) , and freeze it to enjoy later .

i’ve seen few french villages so small there wasn’t a boulangerie.

i was travelling with my kids (1992?) in rural quebec and wr were hungry in mid-afternoon.  i stopped at a local boulangerie and they had a braided loaf of the most delicious, sweet, buttery bread.  almost like pastry.  i wish i remembered what they called it.

I will never forget traveling in France by car with my late wife on scenic rural roads , and forgetting that the French restaurants have rather strict hours of operation . We had visited a chateau/vineyard in Burgundy after a meager ‘breakfast’ of croissant and coffee . I had known the owners , so the tour of the thousand year old chateau dragged on until well past noon . We got back on the road , and by that time my wife was ravenously hungry , and letting me know it . Finally , I spotted an inn with a nice terrace restaurant … Perfect ! I pulled off the road , and we sat down . A few minutes later a waiter emerged to tell us that we were too late for lunch . I’d forgotten that after 2 pm , there was no lunch service anywhere . I should have known better !

It was a frosty afternoon in the car as we continued our travels with empty stomachs !

Guess when traveling public transportation bring drinks, snacks and a deli sandwich along.
Some friends just got back from Japan. They were traveling all over and sent pictures of bullet trains and a two tier bus with open top. They also sent pics of homeless too but better dressed and not unruly. Guess problems are everywhere now. After they got back I didn’t hear from them a couple days cuz they were exhausted lol

October’s payroll number will be depressed by about 46,000 because of workers who were temporarily off payrolls during the six-week United Auto Workers strike against General Motors that ended Oct. 25.

Economists are predicting that the Labor Department’s monthly jobs report out on Friday will show that job creation fell below 100,000 in October. Job creation was reported at 136,000 in September and has averaged 157,000 per month since July. According to an advisory from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, October’s payroll number will be depressed by about 46,000 because of workers who were temporarily off payrolls during the six-week United Auto Workers strike against General Motors that ended Oct. 25.
